Would be a tad messed up if you were like "nein, you may not watch & score a match for your own edification in ze privacy of your own home.

    Mancini-Kim

    1 9-10
    2 10-9
    3 10-9
    4 9-10
    5 10-9
    6 10-10
    7 10-9
    8 9-10
    9 9-10
    10 10-8
    11 10-9
    12 10-9
    13 10-9
    (126-121)
    14 TKO

Not a fight I like to revisit often for obvious reasons.

A real war of attrition that while not quite at the level of quality of Sanchez-Nelson, Gomez-Pintor and Pryor-Arguello is still a heck of a fight nonetheless.

Kim was right there with Mancini for 9 rounds but then Boom Boom started to really boom and take over and it became more of a survival fight for Kim, one which tragically he would lose for real several days after the fight in the ring was over.

When Pryor's face pops up during the clash (only hours after having beaten Arguello) you realise what this fight also cost Mancini. He could have and should have been a mainstream star on the level of a Sugar Ray Leonard, but Kim's death tainted him (very unfairly) and put an end to him as a top-flight fighter. A real shame.

I don’t rewatch this often either, but did for the thread. But I didn’t include comments, because it is on my list of fights I hate due to the things I know about the aftermath.

This is how I view the fight, makes it hard for me to revisit. As a boxing fan, and being selfish, this is a shame in a different way.

One fighter, passed tragically. The other, guilt ridden and away from the mainstream, such a waste of talent.

I was ready a week ago lol....if it is a monthly thing I don’t have the attention span to do that. I may this time when it ends, but not sure if I can continue a once a month type thing...

You feel like Mancini was that good and that tragedy hurt him as a fighter? Or just that Kim's death put a cloud over his star?

A bit of both, but more of the latter. I wasn't around at the time so it's possible I've bought into the narrative a bit but the impression I've got is that Mancini could have been boxing's next big crossover star. He was probably on his way to that but with Ray Leonard announcing his retirement only 4 days before Mancini fought Kim, there was a void to fill that Sugar Ray had left and Boom Boom seemed primed to fill it.

Mancini obviously wasn't a talent on Leonard's level but he was all-action (as the Kim fight showed) and fun to watch. By his own admission, Kim's death took Ray's heart out of boxing and the public's reaction turned against boxing at a high point of its popularity and also against Mancini just when his star looked set to ascend into the stratosphere.

Just trying to get these right before I add them up...can I edit your score to 124-121 because you did not deduct a point from Gomez in 6 or from Pintor in 9. Just want to be sure how you want your score tabulated.

Sure if you want, to be perfectly honest I didn't watch with volume on after round 3 due to Leonard's commentary, so I just assumed that the point deductions were warnings, and wondered if I'd get pulled up on it.
