You would think with all of those who call robbery over the DLH vs Whitaker decision that we might get a few willing to post thier cards to defend thier position.

As Mills Lane said right before the fight:Let’s get it on

I watched Oscar--Whitaker somewhat recently and had Oscar ahead.

I think a draw would have been the right outcome. Neither fighter deserved the win.

I scored Oscar-Tito 8-4 for Oscar. I gave Tito 4 (maybe wrongly), 9, 11, and 12. I didn't think Oscar's running was excessive until round 12. I thought Tito was conpetitive in a lot of rounds that he ulitmately lost.

Lampley's commentating was off base and irritating.

Big Pun was in the ring for Tito's entrance and was physically enormous at that time.

    Whitaker v De La Hoya

    Here’s my card:

    1 DLH
    2 DLH
3 DLH (2 point round - Extra point deduction against Whitaker makes it 10-8)
4 DLH (close - Whitaker’s defensive skills starting to come into play but DLH scored the only meaningful punches of the round in between missing a lot).
5 Whitaker (how do you score that?! One guy is coming forward and throwing but missing, the other is showing amazing reflexes and showboating but not throwing much or landing himself. Oscar getting frustrated switches to southpaw. Whitaker wins on ring generalship)
    6 Whitaker
7 Whitaker (close - Whitaker seems to be controlling the pace of the fight at this point)
8 DLH (close - Tough round to score. Defensive skills from Sweetpea but DLH seemed to land the more telling punches)
9 Whitaker (two point round - Knockdown call against DLH seemed debatable)
    10 DLH
    11 DLH (close and ugly)
    12 DLH
    DLH 115-111 Whitaker

My impression of this one was that Whitaker didn’t do enough offensively to take this. He showed great defensive skills and ring generalship but De La Hoya took it home over the final two or three rounds by being busier - kind of the reverse of his performance against Trinidad.

There were plenty of close and hard to score rounds and DLH seemed to change style and tactics on several occasions- fought flatfooted in the early stages, switched to southpaw as Whitaker started to frustrate him, then started boxing and moving. All of that could be seen as a victory of sorts for Whitaker but Sweetpea seemed content to make Oscar miss, not really make him pay. And sure, Oscar missed and missed a lot. But when he got through, his were the more meaningful blows.

Next week’s fight of the week nomination - something that doesn’t go to the cards!

Matt Franklin v Marvin Johnson 2 for some serious bloodletting?!

I’m off to watch two heavyweights kick the **** out of each other (Marciano-Walcott in other words)...

Both fights were super close, I thought DLH got to cautious the last few rds against Trinidad and that led to the misconception Trinidad actually won the fight, he didn't,
playing it too safe almost cost him. Against Whitaker, I feel that fight could've went either way and didn't have a problem with the dec. It was that close. But I feel DLH should've won that fight much more convincingly, esp considering Whitaker was so much smaller than DLH and was above his best fighting weight weight and past prime.

Do you feel the judges got it wrong with the outcome of either fight?

We both saw 5 & 11 close and scored opposite for those 2 rounds but still came to the same score and winner. We agreed on 10 out of 12 rds...I don’t see controversy on this one?

I agree in that I found it easier to score than De La Hoya-Trinidad but it was still tough to read.

But I thought DLH was busier and landed the more meaningful punches. I never felt Whitaker was countering often enough to steal the rounds.

Any chance you mixed up rounds 4 and 5? I thought 5 was a much better round for DLH than 4 was.

I was scoring round by round but given the general consensus on round 4 being a Trinidad round I’m willing to say I might have got it wrong.

My card was very similar to both of yours. I only gave Trinidad 4, 11, and 12, and I scored 7 and 10 even. Some very close rounds and I'm sure my scoring would change if I watched it again closely, as it has in the past. At this point I'm pretty sure that there's no way I would ever score this fight for Trinidad though.
