I hear you but I just don't get the argument for ignoring the binding rules that are in place--especially since part of what we're discussing is whether the fights were properly scored and decided. Seems like a slippery slope once we start ignoring scoring rules that we disagree with.

I agree that the danger is that it can lead to a slippery slope, but I feel this is slightly different. If we see multiple low blows or infractions that are rightfully called I agree. They should be factored into the scoring of the fight. Here though, Mills lane didn't even call for a point deduction at the time, the sanctioning body did so later on in the fight. The point is, this isn't for known violations like low blows or rabbit punches, this is a rule most don't even agree with, and that is the distinction that can be made here. The main point is of this exercise is who won the boxing match and won more rounds. I'm not sure an accidental headbutt and the person not injured getting a point deducted tells us who should've won that round. If anything it clouds that round which is not needed. People can simply judge that round based on... what they usually judge rounds on. That should be good enough and gives us a better picture who actually won the fight. How does awarding a 10-8 round to Oscar, actually help us determine who won the boxing match?

I just don't see how the distinction you're drawing between intentional fouls and inadvertent head-butts matters. The bottom line to me is that all boxing matches take place under specific, previously-stipulated rules. Boxing differs from most major sports in that some of those rules are subject to vary by jurisdiction or maybe as the result of negotiations, but they are what they are. I guess we'll probably have to agree to disagree.

I'd like to see how you scored Round 1 for ODLH Kev... if you could give me your view on how DLH won that round.

I'd also like to hear opinions on how ODLH won round 5. I've seen a couple round 5's go to ODLH, but most I've seen go to Whitaker. So I'm curious why some thought that was an Oscar round.

Yeah, I just rewatched Round 1 again more carefully and scored it for Whitaker. His jabs weren't very meaningful punches but they still scored points and won him the round by default imo. I had originally thought that a couple of Oscar's punches landed with more impact but in rewatching it as carefully as possible, I saw that wasn't the case. My bad.

Nobody's bad bro, that is the whole point of the exercise you got started. Sometimes rounds are very hard to judge and can go multiple ways depending on the criteria. Sometimes your impression of a fight only mirrors the first time you watched it, then when you watch it again you're surprised by things you missed or didn't notice the first time. Perfect example is Zarate - Pintor... I had a wildly different impression of this fight from when I watched it the first time, than I did when I watched it again. Good job on these Kev

Is this enough for the forum to regard Oscar-Pea as a close win for Oscar and not a could've-gone-either way fight?

Why would that be? I still have Pea winning the fight, so why would I consider it a Oscar win now?

Because most people are coming up with Oscar scores.

TBF you only have Pea winning because you refused to score the penalty point that Judges were required to score. Yes you can not like a rule, but hard to validate that you alone get to over rule a penalty that was in place prior to the fight (not created mid fight)...had you scored that penalty the fight is a draw on your card.

I agree, if I counted that round a 10-8... it would be a draw on my card. However, it's not true that I totally discounted the rule. I had that round even, so I did count that deduction, and factored in a 10-9 round for Oscar.
I'd like to know from your perspective how you can view round 3 as a 10-8 type of round for Oscar. Next, I get what you're saying about scoring, but as I talked about with Kev... how does counting the foul help us determine who won the actually boxing match between the two. Shouldn't we be more concerned about who landed more punches and did what it took to win the fight, not counting an accidental headbutt against the non-injured guy. I'd like to know how that tells us who won the actual punches thrown between the two... which I thought was exponentially more important and why we are discussing scorecards... Than an accidental headbutt. Just my view. But I factored that in regardless. Again though, even if we make that round a 10-8 round for Oscar... It still comes out a draw on my card... So why would I then agree to a premise of... can we now regard this fight as an Oscar win?

Lastly bud, as I asked Kev (and to Jel as well), how did you score round 1 for Oscar? It's scoring like this, which is what these threads are about. Coming to conclusions about various rounds and what you liked about someone's work in that round. If you're scoring that round for Oscar, when I see no way for that to be an Oscar round, that I'd like to delve into more... not how we scored an accidental headbutt.

Yeah, the group really split on that round.

@PhillyPhan69 and @Pat M scored it for Oscar, but @Jel and I scored it for Whitaker.

I scored round 5 to Whitaker on superior ring generalship. He didn't throw a lot himself but I felt he controlled it. Even then, I still I thought it was a close one. Round 1 I scored for Oscar but can't remember why now.

Short point- Flash KD gets scored 10-8 same as a crushing one...don’t they factor into a score? Same as a low blow after a warning? Same as an incidental head but where 1 guy got cut. Do I think Pea should have been penalized? NO I do not, but that makes my issue with the rule. The rule is in place and because of that the point was deducted. Because the point was deducted it affected the cards. The cards and scoring is what we are discussing. I would be glad for the rule not to be there...but...it is.

Onto round 1 just rewatched and still score narrowly for Oscar...I can see even, but I don’t see anything Pea did to win the round. Not many clear clean punches either side but I still feel Oscar edged it. We did this fight 2 weeks ago so please don’t ask me to go back and rescore anymore rounds lol this fight is not fun enough for me to want to do again anytime soon.

Edit: just upped the volume prior to round 2. I don’t put much stock into commentators opinions, but for whatever it is worth they both had Oscar edging it as well
