Fight of the Week #5: De la Hoya Double (Whitaker and Trinidad)

    That's interesting. When I re-watched the round it looked like Whitaker landed virtually all of the clean punches. They were mostly jabs with little on them but they caught Oscar flush. On the other hand, Oscar landed even fewer clean punches than I'd realized. I'd originally thought otherwise because I misread Whitaker's unorthodox reactions to some of the punches. There were a couple times where it appeared that Oscar landed punches because Whitaker hopped or stumbled away from them, but upon re-watching I'm convinced that Whitaker avoided them.

    Pretty much how I saw the round. Whitaker didn't land with much on them, but he clearly landed more clean punches. Oscar landed like 5 or 6 punches that whole round and connected at a lower %. As you say, they weren't devastating punches Whitaker landed, there just seemed to be a clear amount more of them landed than Oscar imo
