Absolutely. Both fought with enormous heart and neither could have done better imo. Both fought superb tactical fights. Both wanted it badly. Neither really wilted let alone succumbed or capitulated. How Iran's consistent and often brutal body attack paid zero dividends i will never know.

It was a great style for Duran. Barkley was good but still not as good as he became a few years later.

Just an opinion. People keep posting these ridiculous posts over and over again, I figured my opinion means something. Barkley was in range of Duran's punches. Duran was probably going to win unless Barkley landed a great punch. And he did. He landed punches which would have knocked down anyone like that left hook which turned Duran around.

Guess it depends on how low of a bar you’d set beforehand but I don’t see how Barkley looked exceptionally skilled in this one. Looks like the same Iran Barkley to me. Physically strong and explosive, with a warrior mentality, but otherwise pretty ordinary and workman like. Duran is levels above him, skills wise. You can see Duran out-thinking and out-planning him throughout, timing him and taking advantage of Barkley's poor defensive skills and technique.

Barkley threw some strong jabs but also dropped them a lot and didn’t keep his chin tucked behind them, opening the door for Duran’s rights. Great bodypunching too, though that also presented opportunities for Duran to outmaneuver him in close. I think he may have underestimated Duran after having some early success, and assumed that he was going to be able to wear him down. You could see him get tired and discouraged midway through the fight, when it became clear that Duran wasn't going anywhere. Excellent Duran performance--one of my favorites--and Barkley gave a hell of an effort.

    2. Barkley 20-18 (Barkley 10-9)
    3. Barkley 29-28 (Duran 10-9)
    4. Barkley 39-37 (Barkley 10-9)
    5. Barkley 49-46 (Barkley 10-9)
    6. Barkley 59-56 (Even 10-10)
    7. Barkley 68-66 (Duran 10-9)
    8. Barkley 77-76 (Duran 10-9)
    9. Barkley 87-86 (Even 10-9)
    10. Even 96-96 (Duran 10-9)
    11. Duran 106-104 (Duran 10-8)
    12. Duran 115-114 (Barkley 10-9)

Very fun fight, could definitely go either way. I don't like doing even rounds, but I did 2 here, both of them could very easily swing the outcome of the fight.

When I watched it live that was my card 115-113. If I altered it since it'd be 116 -112 . And I'm a big Duran Fan.
