    This was quite a fight between these two greats, Marvin Johnson behind his stiff right jab kept taking it to Mathew Saad Muhammad with smashing body punches. This reminded me of a good old street fight. Saad Muhammad kept firing and connecting with those pulverizing right hands to the head of Johnson. This was a war of attrition until the end came in round 9 on April 22 1979, just over a week that Victor Galindez had regained the WBA Light Heavyweight title from Mike Rossman. Our whole neighborhood spoke of the Matthew Saad Muhammad vs Marvin Johnson WBC Light Heavyweight Title bout over a few beers.

    I always enjoy a good Saad Muhammad fight. This one is no exception. I am going to confess to not having watched a lot of Johnson and perhaps none in 5-10 years outside of these 2 fights. But he is an entertaining fighter who brings it. I need to look at some more of him...any suggestions?

    Thanks to all who participated and shared during this thread about these 2 warriors!

    special shout out to our 5 judges although our cards are rendered irrelevant by the stoppage.

    We were split on who was winning at TOS much like the judges who scored: Johnson 67-66, 68-67 and one for Franklin 68-65).
