Ward Vs Burton has to be one of the great examples of how scoring with the 10 point must system is beyond questionable. 96-94 96-91 98-90 were the scores in favor of Ward. Imo it was a close to even fight up until the 9th when Wards bread and butter met Burtons bread basket with a side of liver. But even still that was a 10/8 round. How the judges came up with these scores is beyond me. Listening to a young Teddy Atlas share the commentary wasn't half bad for once and even he had the fight scored with a 1 point difference. Hats off to Steve Smoger for literally man handling both fighters at the end of each bell almost. Question if anyone knows.. I remember hearing PBF being interviewed before the Castillo rematch and PBF was asked who is hardest fight was and Floyd replied " I don't remember his name but he was my toughest fight". Later revealed it was the Drunken Master. Oh yeah the question...why did Emanuel change his last name? This content is protected
I wouldn’t say it had anything to do with the 10 point must system. Ward just won by a wider margin than he should have because the fight took place in New England. Ward is from Lowell, Massachusetts and the fight wasn’t too far from there in Hampton, New Hampshire.
My thoughts: I think Emmanuel is cousins with Kimbo Slice for a fact(?) Steve smoger I believe it was, did a great job of refereeing this affair I had a great time watching fnf's foty on this night! Also Emmanuel, Mayweather professed that he Emanuel was his most difficult fight!
Quality action. Loved watching Emmanuel in action (and Ward was hardly Johnny Nelson) and remember him coming to UK to fight John Thaxton- as a late 'opponent' and totally outclassing him. Great to see scraps like this winning 'fight of the year' rather than some massively overrated world title fight where hardly anything exciting happens.
