The Marquez-Vasquez fights were good but be real, theyre ****in bantamweights, theres not as much significance in their fights as there was in Pavlik-Taylor or potentailly Hatton-Mayweather. If saturdays fight is 80% as good as Vas-Marq, it takes it as a fight of the year.
ahhaahahahaahahahahah FLOYD WILL NEVER EVER BE IN A FIGHT OF THE YEAR....OR FIGHT OF THE NIGHT... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHHHH
They could next year if he doesn't avoid a match with Cotto. It will be great to see Floyd fight a real pressure fighter.
:deal Marquez - Vazquez 1 and 2 were phenominal...two of the best fights I have ever watched....god I cant wait for the next one!!!! Others that deserve mention... Bika - Codrington Taylor - Pavlik Katsidis - Earl Katsidis - Amonzot Calzaghe - Kessler Wilson - Nwodo Mosely - Cotto Those were just off the top of my head.
Well put. All of those runners-up deserve mention as good exciting fights of 2007, but not in the same breath as either Vazquez-Marquez. :nod
And?. If Mayweather aint involved in a "fight of the year", so what. As long as he puts on performances like he did against Corrales from time to time. Thats good enough for me.
A fight which features a long reigning bantamweight champion going up to face the undisputed champion at 122lbs is pretty ****ing significant, regardless of the weight class. And, the fact that both of these fights featured non-stop action means that they should seriously be considered for FOTY. The only reason why they might not win is due to the fact they both of those tilts were cut short before a truly conclusive finish could be had (and, even then, you could make a strong case the ending to the 2nd fight was still pretty conclusive). But, in terms of sustained action, they're the best fights of the year...in my mind, even better than Pavlik-Taylor.
Cotto-Judah was a lot of fun, too. Fernado Montiel-Luis Melendez was a great, great fight, and also deserves a mention.
