Prior to Bivol getting a much deserved decision against Canelo I was definitely of the opinion that Golovkin needed to go out on his shield to get a W. Now I am wondering what strategy both fighters will bring to the ring. To me, Canelo looked slower at 175 and I am wondering if he works to get some speed back, or he tries to impose himself and his new size on GGG. (I think that would be a mistake personally) For Golovkin I wonder if he is now confident he can get a W if he uses his jab and boxes disciplined. A key difference to me as to why Bivol got a decision GGG couldn't is because GGG got hit clean and that is a sure fire way to lose a round. Especially when a judge is looking to give a round to a certain fighter. What strategies do you expect each fighter to come with?
I see your point about a sustained body attack as it has troubled Golovkin but that also means risking getting headshots from Golovkin. Canelo did a good job in their last fight though so maybe he sticks to that. I think 168 might benefit GGG a bit so it may help his stamina. Canelo isn't capable of applying pressure for a full 12 rounds though.
same he did in the second fight. But this time the one in front of him will be older, slower and with less reflexes. He should win comfortably with the same strategy.
Or poke at GGG's body with jabs to try and bring the guard down and free up the head, try to box with ggg the rounds you want to have off and take the fight to the inside like he did with Jacobs
Hard to say. We haven't seen GG in a real test in years, plus he is at an advanced age, so I don't know that his traditional style will carry through the fight this time around, but he's also too old to be adding new things to his game at this point . Plus this fight is at 168 no? I think that Canelos natural weight right now. All things considered I think Canelo should and will bully GG around and force him to use up all his energy early on. Honestly I don't think GG has done anything of late to deserve a cash out against Canelo for a belt..if they want to do some exhibition fight, that's fine...but s full on title shot for GG after he ducked Charlo and Andrade for so long sets a very bad example for the kids
GGG will be vulnerable and will get hit a lot. He could get KO'd himself. GGG needs a knockout or knockdowns to win. I unfortunately see this going to canelo via UD or late stoppage. GGG needs to go for it.
Ggg beats canelo the third time in a close fight 7-5 this time, but gets robbed once again and the canelo nut huggers will again talk about canelos greatness.
GGG needs to try and work Clens body as a gameplan. He nelgected body punching almost entirely against him. And GGG has shown he can put together some nice body shots when he does. Against Murata he landed some lovely body left hooks. Going to the body will zap that sus gas tank of Canelo's too. Maybe Golovkin should just punch his shoulders all night? @shadow111 will have nowhere to run if it ends up another controversial decision
I'm not sure GGG can do much different. What he does is already good enough to win/make the fight close. He should try going to the body more. The problem with GGG is that he's just a lot easier to hit than Bivol.
I agree with this situation and hoping GGG goes for the KO is absurd. he knew he needed a KD or KO in the second fight to seal the deal but didn’t produce one
I think he BIvol fight actually proves why Golovkin shouldn't try to outbox him, because Bivol dominated and only won by a round. Golovkin doesn't have the length to stay out of range the same way so will always get hit more and it will always be closer (even though Golovkin dominated the first fight). So I think he still needs to go for the stoppage. If he tries to outbox Canelo again after not being rewarded the first few times it would be a foolish way to go for the win. Even if Bivol tries that in the rematch I expect he could lose. People are quickly forgetting Bivol almost lost with his strategy. Yes he won, but only just. Canelo is likely to do better in the rematch and all he needs is probably 3-4 clear rounds and 3 close ones to get the win. This is probably the conversation the promoters have behind close doors.
The only way for GGG to win is to go for the KO. He won't be able to 10 - 2 Canelo like Bivol did. Canelo will fight like he did in the second fight. With some small adjustments of course.
Agreed. I've watched Mayweather, Bivol, and GGG win 8+ rounds against Canelo and the cards were inexcusable. GGG probably isn't taking 9 rounds from Canelo. However, I do wonder how the loss affects Canelo? He is clearly delusional considering he thinks he beat Bivol. Deep down, he knows he got bullied and I wonder if this will change his strategy against Golovkin. I don't see him stopping Golovkin, but I think the fight will be close and go to the cards.
