What am I suppose to do the week before the fight? I know I shouldn't lift weights so I can avoid being sore. What about roadwork though? If I go the entire week without running won't I lose my stamina?
Do what your trainer tells you. If you trust him enough to let him bring you along this far with a fight in a week, why second guess him now. This must be your first fight or you wouldn't be asking this question.
^ what he said. I'll usually be running up until like 2 days before the fight. Some people even wake up and run the day of the fight, just becuase they are used to doing it and they don't want to change their body's routine. Best to go with what your trainer says for your first time. As you get more fights and experience you'll figure out what works for you.
I wouldn't really do anything strenuous for the last 2 days before a fight. I generally stop weights about a week before, and don't spar the last training session before.
Rule of thumb this everyone is different. But it takes ten days before losing condition, but less to lose sharpness, concentrate on light speed work.
Slightly different to scrap on this one- though I take on board his wiser words. But science tells us to maintain intensity and lower volume. Personally I liked to do what scrap says back in the day but this time i'll prob use the intense method.
Jeff as i say its a rule of thumb, I like to finnish 4 days before. But there are individuals, because of there psyhcology its different. But thats what the guys in white coats tell us
i f yopu have been training intensely i understood a few days of copmplete rest or at least very light exercise will cause you to improve?
You can't lose fitness in a week, you need to go for quality over quantity. Low volume, you shouldn't be training much as you'll want to replenish your glycogen stores and be fresh for the fight.
