FightClub OC: Andreas Katzourakis vs. Christian Aguirre & Sean García vs. Anthony Torres RBR

Um, so apparently the match I had presumed was to replace Bohachuk's as the main event already happened earlier.

Anyway, the actual substitute main event is a ****ing MMA bout. Had I paid a ticket expecting a boxing match to be headlining, I'd be RAGING and demanding a refund.

 

Jesse "Powder" Newell vs. um...some other dude, 3 rounds @ some weight.

 

...and, Newell KO1. Mounted the dude in the corner, started dropping fists & elbows on his face and that was that.

 

Going to circle back and score what should've been the main event now. Video is up & working; this fight is actually the first one, about eight minutes in.

 

Andreas Katzourakis vs. Christian Aguirre, 6 rounds @ middleweight

 

Katzourakis had a brief yet successful amateur run competing both domestically in Greece and internationally, going 22-0, and becoming European middleweight youth champion.

 

Round 1

Katzourakis is applying pipe busting pressure from the jump, driving Aguirre into the ropes and dropping him with a hard chopping right on the forehead less than a minute in. Aguirre rises quickly and begins to dart in and out with a lumpy jab while bending his neck, head lolling to one side as he repeatedly collides with Katzourakis in either sticky clinches or bumper-car repeals. Katzourakis patiently sharking his way in, arms scrunched up, face cloistered behind his fists, pumping out stiff jabs. They jaw at the bell, trash-talking.

Round 2

Aguirre jumping in, feathering jabs against the guard and drilling right hands into the belly and chest of the Hellenic man. Katzourakis is taking advantage of Aguirre starting to admire his work, clipping him with a very well timed counter left hook as he's backing out with his gloves down. Katzourakis muscles Aguirre into the corner and is spun onto the ropes with Aguirre cloying to him, aligning his arms with Katzourakis' and spreading them along the length of the ropes, parallel with them. BIG 1-2 by Katzourakis, threading a counter between the eye of the needle when Aguirre was flurrying his way past him.

Round 3

Katzourakis is countering with uppercuts past Aguirre's lazily recalled jab. Katzourakis is now quickly switching gears and rotating the right shoulder to bring the RH chopping down from above, stunning Aguirre multiple times with it as he frantically hops away. Clinch attempt by Aguirre, shoved off. Looping right and left hook on the body from Katzourakis, almost doubling Aguirre over. Aguirre tries standing his ground and digging in with his own body shots but they are not even close to as effective, Katzourakis marching through without even flinching at them. BIG shots by Katzourakis, looking for the finish, whipping his fists at the head, getting Aguirre on the ropes, blasting him with both hands wide, ref in to wave it off.

TKO3!!

 

Katzourakis looked okay, as far as I could tell - but the camerawork and production value on this were bottom-rung. (although in fairness, the commentators did acknowledge this multiple times, appealing to fans to have a little patience & understanding, as they have no budget and literally are literally the action themselves from ringside while calling it and broadcasting on Facebook Live using the venue's shoddy WiFi...)
