That's as clear an example as could be made!

A lot of these examples are when the superior fighter was far past prime like Duran-Paz/Camacho and even Robinson-Pender.
You could add Sam Langford 0-2 Fred Fulton to those.

Then you have the pre-prime results like:
    Alan Minter 0-0-2-1 Jan Magdiarz

But the best example I can think of is when the great Benny Lynch was world champion but lost in two non-title fights
    Benny Lynch 0-2 Jimmy Warnock

    and similarly
Jackie Brown 0-2 Mickey McGuire, while Brown was world champion and lost in two non-title fights

Of course, I could throw in
    Muhammad Ali 0-3 Ken Norton

Yep. Lynch didn’t fancy putting world title on the line against Warnock.

Kinda’ straightened itself out though when Kane beat Warnock and then Lynch beat Kane.

I agree with everything you said except about Gatti. Although, I suppose you are right that Gatti should be ranked higher, Robinson showed just how easy it was for a decent boxer to outbox the exciting, but overrated Gatti.

I thought about it, too. Should Gatti be ranked higher? His 2 belts made the difference.

Emile Griffith and Luis Rodriquez split their first two fights, and then Rodriquez went 0 for 2 in the last two. Questionable decisions. In my opinion, Luis was the superior fighter.

Johnny Tapia still ranks higher over Paulie Ayala despite losing to him twice.
James Toney also lost twice to Samuel Peter but is still much greater than him.

Emile Griffith would rank higher than Luis Rodriguez on most welterweight lists and certainly p4p lists. I think you can argue that Rodriguez was a tough matchup and could have even been ahead in their series but being greater overall seems a stretch.

It’s not a lock. Rodriguez has a very deep resume and clearly got the better of the series with Griffith.
