"Fighter A ran all night!" - 1st off, he probably didn't; 2nd, even if he did, it doesn't mean B won

Should the combatants' disposition be divorced from scoring in boxing?

  1. Yes they should be separate. All scoring ought to be objective and devoid of stylistic preference.

  2. No, they're integrally connected. Punish even tactical retreat & reward even ineffective aggression.

I agree with you for the most part, except for Dirrell vs. Stevens, that **** was just plain running.:deal:

We even agree on that...read it again, I cite that as practically the archetype of running (alongside Ler's disgraceful showing against the Lollipop Cowboy)

Great minds think alike, that was literally the first thing that popped in my mind when I saw the thread, so I reflexively just wrote it without reading any of the comments.

Loaded language for the options, but yes, I think aggression should be the tie break. If there appears little to no observable difference in punches thrown, landed, damaged done, etc, then I go with the more aggressive boxer. Otherwise, what's the point, it's not a sprint, its fighting.

    Ineffective aggression > ineffective submission!!!!

If all things are equal punches landed/missed the guy going backwards is the guy that appears to be submitting and giving up the ring. Why would you score it for them or even give it a draw?

Take the Fury v Wlad fight. Some might call it running. Some might call it a master class..Fury landed the most scoring punches and won the fight. You saw the Wlad v AJ fight??..I would say Tyson's was a masterclass on the night.

And in your version of scoring Canelo fights for the first minute and doesn't throw a punch for the next two minutes and wins the round for being evasive!
