But still; Barkley bombing out Hearns although a shock was on the radar; but Iran to score enough points to hold Hearns to a draw and indeed win with the knockdown is freaky. Ray Leonard, Wilfred Benitez and Virgil Hill could not outpoint Tommy, but Barkley did...
Barkley applied good pressure and Hearns' legs were pretty much shot. He couldn't move well enough to outbox Barkley for long stretches. Hill made the mistake of not applying much pressure and trying to outbox Hearns from ring center. He didn't make Hearns use his legs enough.
Vitali Klitschko. He was never down on any score card after three rounds, and never lost more than three consensus rounds in any of his fights. Never floored either, his score cards were very lopsided. I'd compare his score cards to any other boxing champion, regardless of weight class. Vitali combined towering height, mobility, a high punch out put, distance judgment, defensive reflexes, and ring smarts and made his opponent fight on his terms in almost all cases.
VK was like a heavyweight Monzon stylewise...and while not as great as Monzon, he's pretty underrated IMO.
And he never beat only one good fighter. The glass-chinned Hide could outbox him easily. He looked (he's pathetic face proved) very easy to hit against the slowest oldest (nearly 38 years old) Lewis. The fat slow 38 years old Sanders could chase him. Vitali klitschko looked good against fat bums but the punchtats proved he didn't look good against the unprepared Byrd. When he looked tired against Byrd the fat chris just humiliated him.
A big reason why Hearns was so hard to out-box were his physical advantages over the likes of Leonard and Benitez. Against Barkley those advantages were diminished. And Barkley was willing to take Hearns' shots in order to land his own. As Saad said Hill made the mistake of trying to box with Hearns rather than walking him down.
