A win over Jones means nothing, and one more win still wouldn't put Joe on the same level as Hopkins or Mayweather. Both are better h2h at their own weights and both have stronger resumes. IMO.

 

He did not have the best resume, but Hopkins does not have the best resume of any active fighter now and I think he is the fighter of this decade. Resume is the most important factor, but it is not the only one. In the 90s Jones had wins over Hopkins, Toney, McCallum, Hill and Griffin - his resume was good. That resume allied to the fact he looked by far the most sensationally talented fighter around, this is what made him the FOTD. If you ally Hopkins's 2000s resume to his skills, I believe we have the FOTD 2000s.

 

Mayweather has this claim

 

The wins over Reid and Eubank were not particlarly impressive anyway, if we are talking about naming a Fighter of the Decade. Reid was never a world-class boxer, had Hopkins or Jones beaten him he would have been forgotten as just another name on the resume, a Syd Vanderpool or a Reggie Johnson. Eubank was in semi-retirement when he got a late call-up to fight Calzaghe. That is one of the most overrated wins in recent history IMO.
