Just saw a commercial for Mayweather/Marquez 24/7 where FMJ says "They call me TBE: The best ever." Is there anyone that really thinks FMJ is even
in the conversation for the best ever? Anyone think that he's even close?

I might put him in the top 25 of all time but if I never get a chance to evaluate him against the best of his era even that is a stretch.

In the next year 4 months fighter of the decade honors are coming up.

FMJ will have a chance to state his case against JMM, a great fighter. His resume is suspect at best for the past 5 years.

Manny Pacquiao will have a chance to state his case against Cotto, a top, if recently tainted, fighter.

We'll see what happens but who do you think is getting fighter of the decade honors come December 31, 2009?

It's all about being fighter of this generation, "best fighter ever" is nonsense. Mayweather had that title(fighter of the generation) secured in 2007, now Pacquiao charges in and he has taken the spot. That's why Mayweather returned anyway as Pacquiao took his spot and is reigning strong. I'm sure Mayweather knows that no one out there can beat Pacquiao to put him back on the spotlight as the fighter of this generation so he has to come do it his self. Even though he won't admit it's damn obvious his return is to stop Pacquiao from securing that spot and make people totally forget about him.

    Pacquiao, Mayweather.

I had hoped for them to fight before the end of the decade as part of the build up could be for "Fighter of the Decade".

    Oh well.

I "might" put him in my top 25, didn't want to come off as a hater. I've got mad respect for what he did against Corrales and Castillo but that was a long, long time ago and not enough to make a fighter an all time great. I was reading FMJ's resume the other day and didn't see anything that was remotely impressive except his last fight against Hatton. I give credit for that, regardless of Hatton's real value. I'm not a Floyd-hater, I respect the talent. I'm not a big fan of De la Hoya but the fact that he faced the best of the best gives him big time points from me, despite his record. I can't imagine FMJ would ever take those kind of challenges but I invite him to because smoke and mirrors doesn't work for very long in a sport that values its history as much as boxing.

Manny Pacquiao will get it provided he beats Cotto. Even Hopkins should be ahead of PBF for fighter of the decade imo.

:goodagree with every word. the fighter of the decade will be decided when mayweather and pac fight. IF, a big if, they don't fight their remaining fights will decide who is numero uno

Pac's win against cotto will seal the deal for him as the best fighter of the decade.

Will fighter of the decade honors be bestowed on someone at the end of the year or will everyone wait and see if FMJ-Pac happens and then decide?

Is it possible that if say FMJ KOs JMM and Pac gets KO'd and they never fight (a possible if improbable scenario) that FMJ would be fighter of the decade? To me Pac has already taken that title. His resume crushes FMJ's.

imo it belongs to Pac. Win, lose or draw. Regardless of wether PBF beats JMM and Cotto beats Pacquiao, even by knockout. We're talking Manny Pacquiao vs Miguel Cotto here, and Juan Manuel Marquez vs Floyd Mayweather Jr

did anyone in their right mind even contemplate 2 years ago that Pac and JMM would ever be able to challenge Cotto and PBF?

If Floyd beats JMM, Pac has to beat Cotto to be considered fighter of the decade. That said, I still think even if they fight early next year (if they both win their next fight), we should use that. Or we could say one was fighter of this decade, and whoever wins between them if they fight is the greater fighter I guess. I don't know, I won't care too much about the potential history until I see the fight. That will be satisfaction enough.
