If Pacquiao doesnt lose before 2010 then he should get it & since he wont be fighting Mayweather in 09 barring a drastic u-turn (miracle) then he will likely get it - even tho I think Cotto has a very real chance to beat him personally, you still somehow expect Manny to prevail again, he`s on such a run.

 

Mayweather is a disgrace to boxing.. Unless the nomination was for Ducker and Cherrypicker of the last decade.. we already know Roy Jones took the honors for the previous decade.

 

I agree (most should if they`re honest) but the retirement didnt help, in fact I would go as far as to say its probably cost him the title unless Pac loses to Cotto & he looks like his old self vs JMM aka beats him clearly.

'09 and '10 will decide if it's Pac or Mayweather. If Mayweather beats JMM and the winner of Cotto-Pacquiao, it has to be Mayweather.

Just to give you a little warning.... you cant say anything good about Calzaghe on these forums, ssshhhh.

I like Calzaghe too & whether most on here like it or not, he was one of the best, I wouldnt put him over FMJ or Pac tho.

What if Pac stays unbeaten til the end of the year then loses to Mayweather clearly & decisively in his first fight early 2010 ?

Does Pac get it due to `the rules`

Does FMJ get it because its `not his fault the fight never happened a few months earlier`

Pac has already won this award it doesnt matter what happens next,he has already done more than the other contenders.

 

Pac gets it because we haven't yet invented a time machine to go back and take it off Pacquiao if he has been awarded it at the end of 2009 and then loses to Mayweather in spring/summer 2010.

 

I would think that if they are handing out an award for 'Fighter of the Noughties' then that should be judged purely on what they did in that specific time frame.

Do they judge the decade from 2001-2010. Or 2000-2009?

 

It's not so sure because there is one year and a half before the nex decade. A lot of things can happen. I also think that Pac will be the fighter of the decade but it is still possible for another fighter to do something special. Imagine if Cotto for example beats him and bet FM. Just giving and exemple or if Hopkins beats Adamek and Valuev and Pac looses tree fights in roll. Don't forget next decade begins 2011 not 2010

 

2000-2009.

Same as 1990-1999, Fighter of the 90s (Jones), etc.

2010-2019 is the next decade.
