I vote for Kelly Pavlik. He demolish Miranda and Taylor, he shows more than Cotto and Mayweather . This is my opinion . Kelly Pavlik fighter of the year 2007 ?
The former amateur fighter Agim Tahiraj and current International refere voted for Wladimir Klitschko .
I'd go with Kelly Pavlik...more than because of the victories, but how he got them. Miranda vs Pavlik was looking like Fight of the Year material, and then Taylor vs Pavlik came and did the same.
Mayweather jr. fought bigger names and attracted the largest general public attention. Fights like PBF/DLH, PBF/Hatton have managed to widen the boxing fan base in ways that any other boxer's fights failed to achieve. To me, "fighter of the year" is the fighter who wins the "big" fights, i.e. the fights that involve the bigger names. I don't care what people think of DLH and Hatton, the former is a future Hall of Famer, the latter was undefeated coming into the fight and was presented as PBF's toughest challenge. The significance of the PBF's fights was also superior because these confirmed further his status of P4P champion. Pavlik's achievement in 2007 are notable but not as significant. He beat a questionable champion in Taylor, wich reputation is based on superior athleticism, limited boxing skills and judges favoritism. Edison Miranda is a mean tough dude but who did he beat that is worth mentioning? Allan Green? Pavlik/Jose Luis Zertuche has practically no significance.
Those of you arguing for Cotto or Floyd over Pavlik should consider that those guys had careers before this year. Pavlik went from unheard of to champion in a fashion that couldn't be more impressive: Sensational Knockouts.
