Right now I'd go,

1) Adonis Stevenson
2) Guillermo Rigondeaux
3) Danny Garcia

Assuming they all win their remaining fights,

1) Guillermo Rigondeaux
2) Adonis Stevenson
3) Edgar Sosa

 

And there's no way Golovkin is fighter of the year. I love the guy, but sorry, no.

Yeah, he would need a third of a similar level, closer to Viloria than Melindo, to put him in the running.

ie, were there enough time left in the year for him to meet Sosa or Segura (his top contenders) that would more than get him on the list - but it's November and he doesn't have anything scheduled.

 

PBF was not the clear favorite!!! After Pac beat Oscar and crushed Hatton, he was deemed unstoppable. It was clear floyd was scared of him, 50 cent even said Floyd was scared he would lose. At that time they began the negotiations and Floyd pulled the testing BS out of his ass, they were almost dead even. Not to mention Pac was rated #1 P4P was he not?

No, they were all coming off bad losses (cept Bellew isn't) that's why I personally put Kovalev first. Nonetheless, both Stevenson and Kovalev will have fought 1 champion, 1 ex-champion and 1 other fringe top 10 guy (Bellew and White, respectively) this year. Both have become champions. Stevens has become lineal LHW champion.

IMO beating 2 solid top 10 fighters and a fringe in Bellew and having 4 fights and (likely) 4 KO wins is better than only having 2 wins by UD (or what shoulda been UD). The only thing Floyd did special was fight twice instead of once this year.

The simple fact is that Floyd didn't do anything that special by beating Guerrero and 'Nelo - it is possible to argue that they were the best available (by the same token one could say GGG fought the 'best available'), but that does not make them exceptional victories.

In my eyes FOTY should go to someone whose year has been exceptional in some way; a breakout year, fighting and winning against the odds a few times, at least something to make 2013 a standout year for that fighter. Activity is also an element in determining FOTY and 2 fights a year is just not enough in my eyes.

Incidentally, I keep hearing the argument that UD wins are just as impressive, even more so than KO wins. I suppose that argument could be made in the case of a 12 round shutout vs a close fight that ends in a KO win, but generally .... just no.

Floyd winning 8-4 or 9-3 is not a better win than if he'd gone say 7-0 or 7-1 and then won by stoppage.

 

I would say Danny Garcia, Bradley, or Golovkin. Danny beat Matthysee when virtually everyone said he had no chance. Danny proved himself the best at 140. Danny could have ducked this fight but he didn't and he got the win.

Bradley proved his toughness and will power against Provodnikov, in a fight that could have gone either way. He fought with a chip on his shoulder, survived knock downs, fought in a fan friendly way, and my opinion got the win legitimately. He could have fought an easier opponent but he wanted to prove his mettle. Then he beat Marquez, and cemented his name as an elite fighter.

Golovkin has been knocking out everyone, and he's been in with fairly decent competition. He is as solid a fighter as anyone. He has 4 knock outs in each of his 4 fights, in one calendar year. Though the fighters he beat aren't elite, he starched them.

Gun to the head decision, Garcia. He overcame a huge obstacle, no one thought he could pull off the upset.

 

Golovkin's not even on the podium IMO. Mayweather, Stevenson, Garcia, and Rigondeaux when he beats Agbeko all have better wins IMO.

 

Tough decision...

Many fighters deserve it, yet none of the fighters really jumps out either

I think it's between Rigondeaux, GGG, and Garcia. All 3 guys jumped into the limelight this year with huge wins, and IMO Rigo had the biggest win of the 3, spanking the champ while only having a handful of pro fights.
