Do you rate Guerrero that highly? Canelo is a solid win (probably even very solid win), but Ghost? No disrespect to RG -- I like him as a fighter and enjoy his fights -- but that win shouldn't rate that high. Nothing in his past performances would lead us to believe that he was a threat to PBF.
People voting Golovkin are ridiculous. Rigondeaux deserves much higher credit for his one victory in the calendar year than Golovkin does for all 4 of his. Garcia does for his one win over Matthysse, let alone the Judah W to boot. Stevenson's year is easily better than GGG's... Rosado (moving up in weight), Ishida (0-1 at MW), Macklin (top 10 MW), and Stevens (decent 3 fight win streak, nothing else as a pro and not a top 10 MW)... That is nothing special fellas. It may be better than Hopkins' and Sosas' 2013 years, but absolutely no one else on the poll.
Guerrero was the best victory at WW to be had at the time other than one over Mayweather, JMM, Bradley, and maybe if you're nostalgic then Pacquiao too. Canelo = #1, lineal champion JMW Guerrero = #4 WW That is leagues better than what any other fighter achieved this year. --- For the sake of relativity, Floyd's win over Guerrero is much better than either of Hopkins', Kovalevs', or Golovkins' wins. Much better.
I don't know. Tim had tough comp, but he just survived. He didn't dominate. Floyd had a good win over Canelo, but that was just one win. Rigondeaux really impressed me, but he only fought once. Mikey Garcia impressed me. Danny Garcia was outboxed for most of those fights by Zab and Lucas, and I had Lucas winning that fight. I have to wait to see how GGG looks against a good boxer. But I'm looking for Leo Santa Cruz to have a breakout year next year.
No. The Pac fight was last June. He's 2-0 with wins over Provodnikov and JMM. It will be a pretty weak winner this year, but come on? What is with people's blind hate toward Mayweather? He clearly takes the prize this year.
I'm not ruling him out. The Canelo win was impressive. Not the Guerrero win. To be honest, Rigondeaux fights in a similar style and had a more impressive win.
Depends on what metrics you want to use. If you judge on who boxed the hardest to beat the toughest competition on the big stage then it has to be Tim Bradley hands down. He showed skill and heart and IMO had the toughest schedule with Ruslan and JMM. Both were fights he could have lost verses and he pulled it out. Also ended Pac controversy IMO by beating the man who beat the man. Even if you disagree with the Pac decision its clear now that Bradley deserves his respect. In second place, at least by the way I view things would be GGG. Haters want to make out his opposition as tin cans, but except for Ishida I dont think that was the case. Rosado is good, Macklin only became a tin can to some after GGG starched him, I think Stevens has a good chance against any MW not named Golovkin (or Martinez if he was at 90% or better). Yeah, not star opponents.. but solid skilled guys and he has dominated. But what I find impressive enough to rate him as FOTY caliber is the work rate. I think a lot guys in his spot would have taken a couple stay-busy fights a year, he fighting 4 times a year. Even if he hasnt gotten the biggest names in the ring yet, thats how you do it - fight hard, fight often to force the issue. Anyone who wants to comment on his opponents should make a case as to who would have made tougher matchups and could realistically have been made. Stevenson could also be number 2 for similar reasons, pending outcome of Bellew matchup. If Stevenson starches Bellew convincingly then runner up spot has to be a tie IMO. But still, I think Bradley is FOTY. I dont see how FMJ could compete with at least one of his fights being a stay-busy fight, and not even that busy. Bradley gets a pass on work rate due to damage taken in Provodnikov fight, which also shows just how tough a win that was. (And I dont rate FOTY based solely on who I speculate commands the greatest skills, number 1 p4p does not equal FOTY in my book)
Would give it to Bradley as well. The guy hardly gets love from anyone. Consider how well Prov did against Alvarado and JMM KTFO Pacquiao, they were stiffest combined competition for the entire year. Of course Bradley won't win it. These stupid awards are all politics. I have a feeling it will go to Mayweather but most of us who do know a little about boxing knew he would win those fights. FOTY should go to someone who went above and beyond what they were expected to do. I thought JMM was going to beat Bradley. Bradley keeps proving me wrong.

It's gonna be Timmy. He showed the casual fans what they want to see and went toe to toe with a hard hitting Provo and then he outclassed a master technician in JMM, who just KO'd the P4P#1/2 fighter, months later. Can't top that as of now.
