Lomachenko showed power some didn't believe he had in knocking out iron-chinned Martinez, and he schooled and embarrassed Walters, who was supposed to be his toughest fight yet, to leap into the p4p lists of those who were too ignorant to have him there already. Ward and Kovalev deserve bon mots for elevating their skill against each other, but because it wasn't a fight Ward clearly won you can't give him fighter of the year.
