I watched the fight again this time with no sound and I still see a very close but clear win for Ward.

I can accept Ward being fighter of the year. He fought the best opponent any boxer fought, and he beat Kovalev at his best.

Oh I picked Lomachenko as fighter of the year hands down for me, consistent top flight competition and just kept putting on master class after master class each one better than the next. I was only mentioning re-watching/re-scoring the Ward v Kovalev fight because I seen you mention it a post before that response.

Not sure Golovkin did anything worthy of making the shortlist, even though I'm a big fan.

Lebedev yes, and maybe Usyk and Gassiev as well ought to make the shortlist.

There's no way you can justify Golovkin's inclusion on that list. Given that Thurman's up there for one big win, there's a case for Usyk and Lebedev/Gassiev. None are top candidates though.

Kovalev, yes if you don't give him credit for the Ward fight which he had a good case for winning, but I'm not sure about Thurman and Charlo. IMO Thurman's win over Porter and Charlo's over Williams were better than GGG's over Wade or Brook.

Re Loma: Walters is a very good fighter but we all knew Loma was a far better boxer. It was more about how dominant Loma was, getting the stoppage which few predicted. Martinez was also a decent win in good style to be honest.

Out of interest, who would you pick for FOTY?

Tried to put Gassiev, Lebedev and Usyk up because people mentioned them - though I don't think they're contenders - but being the idiot that I am, I didn't leave enough empty options on the poll so could only get in Gassiev. Sorry.

It was June this year. Loma fought Koasicha last Novermber.

I'm fine with Crawford and Frampton for FOTY. I voted Loma but was very close to going for Frampton. Crawford #3 imo, but such lists are subjective and I can see your case for Crawford as the FOTY.

I didn't actually mention Ward, that's a tough one to rate because he officially has the best win of 2016, but it was definitely very close and controversial.

Gonzalez has a good case, agreed.

Golovkin's had his worst year (through little fault of his own) since 2012. Don't understand that one at all. Pacquiao, Gonzalez, Ward all worthy contenders.

Little Joe really should be in the mix now.
They'd never give it to him though, not high profile enough. But KTFO of the year might be his.
