Martinez. Jumps up to MW and as the underdog, dismantles the lineal champion to claim an easy 8-4 decision. Then destroys a top 8 P4P fighter in a rematch to settle matters.
How about Giovanni Segura.. The guy could have 4 KO's by the time the year is over. 1 of his KO's came off lineal champ, and undefeated fighter, Ivan Calderon... Sure, he may be small, in a big man's world, but we should really appriciate the small guys likewise...
Segura is like Chris John. Not too many follow them there small and are not really getting much love. But im a big fan of Chris Johns and Segura for me is pushing his way close to the top ten P4p
It's got to be Sergio for quality of opposition and victory. Brutal Williams KO and cutting up Pavlik to take the middleweight crown tops Pacquaio's decisions against Clottey and Margarito. It's closer than people think but I've got to give it to Martinez.
Martinez, completely outclassing Pavlik then brutally stopping Williams is worth the award. Pascal would have to destroy Hopkins to get it, but he's had a good year. I liked Montiel too, he's had a good year. But yeah, I'd give it to Martinez
Martinez: Underdog against Pavlik, smaller man, and destroyed him. Watch round 9 again, and look at how effective his left hands are. Then he knocks Williams out in the second, a man that has never been Koed or stopped, with a left hand that surely merits KO OF THE YEAR pacquiao: Fought a Clottey that didnt fight back, unfortunately its this fight that hinders pacmans changes of getting FOTY again. The Margarito performance was flawless but one fight doesnt do justice. Pascal: Great win against Dawson, a bit lucky at the end but he showed a winners mentality. He needs to be the first man to decisively beat Hopkins since RJJ in order to be FOTY
It´s a tough call, mainly ´cause the year is not over yet; though, if it was, it would surely this one go to Sergio THE WONDER Martinez for having unquestionable taken 2 elite fighters in their prime.
Definitely Sergio Martinez. Pacmans, Floyd's, and Juanma's were all good wins and they were great performances, that is expected from them, but can they do the same to a evenly matched opponent? In Sergio's case, the Williams fight WAS an evenly matched fight and what made things sweeter was that Williams actually had a victory over Sergio. Williams of course much physically bigger. I wouldn't even think twice about thinking who should be fighter of the year for 2010. Sergio "La Maravilla" Martinez hands down. Pacman and Mayweather watchout!
