Thought it was probably the best time to do this, seeing as the Hopkins-Pascal fight has just finished. With a dominating performance Pascal would have been well in the running for this award. But I think he blew his chance with that performance last night, when he was well and truly schooled by Nard for most if not all of the last nine rounds. Here are the contenders, as I see it: Manny Pacquiao: UD12 Joshua Clottey, UD12 Antonio Margarito Sergio Martinez: UD12 Kelly Pavlik, KO2 Paul Williams Juan Manuel Lopez: TKO7 Steve Luevano, TKO2 Bernabe Concepcion, RTD8 Rafael Marquez Giovani Segura: TKO3 Walter Tello, RTD4 Ronald Ramos, KO8 Ivan Calderon, RTD7 Manuel Vargas Abner Mares: KO5 Felipe Almanza, MD Yonnhy Perez, SD12 Vic Darchinyan Fernando Montiel: TKO1 Ciso Morales, TKO4 Hozumi Hasegawa, KO3 Rafael Concepcion, KO3 Jovanny Soto Juan Manuel Marquez: UD12 Juan Diaz, TKO9 Michael Katsidis There's a few honourable mentions, like Froch, Khan and Donaire. I've put in an "others" option for anyone who thinks someone not on the list deserves it. And of course, let me know if I've left someone blatantly obvious off the list.
Same here. I think he's the obvious one to pick. Will be interesting to see if anyone sees it differently. I think an impressive performance by Pascal last night and it would have been real close between the pair. I'd say Juan Manuel Lopez would be my choice as runner-up now.
I'm on my own here but I ain't sold on the Martinez thing. Beating a Pavlik who was in and out of pubs and a Williams that was an accident waiting to happen doesn't convince me.
Martinez or Lopez for me. It wouldn't surprise me to see Pacquiao get it again..... even though he's just had a couple of fillers this year.
It's amazing how good Pac has become that we can talk about Clottey and Margarito as filler-fights. But its true nonetheless.
I had a dream the other nite that Montiel battered Donaire, I probably won't include that in my decision though...
Martinez for me. Hard to find many better wins in 2010 than Martinez Ko'ing Williams in devastating style.
Martinez: The stand out IMO, beat what most people considered the middleweight king and then a very explosive, unexpected KO of a p4p fighter. Doesn't get much better. Lopez: I'd make him #2 for this honour, particularly solid year and has the advantage of having fought 3 times. 3rd place is close any of Marquez, Pacquiao or even Montiel for that stunning victory over Hasegawa I would not argue with.
I think Pacquiao has improved since he moved up but not that much.... he was bound to look great against those two. Clottey is basically a world class journeyman, and he knows which side his bread is buttered - let's be honest. He could have at least gone down swinging. Margarito was hammered by Mosley a while back..... Plus all this Roachweight BS, can't stand that ****er. I'd take Marquez's UD12 over Diaz and TKO9 over Katsidis over Pacquiao's 2010.
