Basically name me a fighter(s) who are thought of as highly entertaining but when in fact they have quite a few fights that don't live up to the appeal.

I've never found Arturo Gatti to be as entertaining as he is made out to be. Sure he has a number of great fights where a huge amount of guts, chin, and heart are displayed and it is a back and forth slugfest, but sometimes it is made out like every fight of his was like that.

I think most fighters have a few stinkers, or not-so-good fights.

I remember in a SI article, they called Mike Tyson "the most exciting heavyweight since Muhammad Ali". Another thread/poll in the general forum had a vote between "More Exciting Fighter" pretty close between Ali and Tyson. Ali is not even close to being as exciting to Tyson in my view.

Despite FOTC and Manila being classics, Ali in large part was a dull fighter IMO. With the exception of the Williams fight, I found most of his title defenses in his first reign to be boring. Flashes of brilliance mixed in with a lot of boredom.

I disagree i just loved the way Tyson tore at an opponent like no other heavyweight in history(only Dempsey,Young George,Fraizer come close). His style was "Im coming and try and stop me!!" wish we had a heavy like that today. Closest one is Arreola but unfortunately he comes in out of shape and not as talented.

No, I agree with you in Tyson being exciting. What I meant was that Ali was not consistently entertaining and that Tyson was WAY more exciting on a consistent basis.

People voted them as being close in excitement and it is not even remotely close in my opinion. Tyson was way more entertaining to watch.

:patsch My bad i reread your post i guess i saw Tysons name and had to stick up for my boy:lol: Ali-Tyson my two favorite heavys, but i agree Tyson was consistently more exciting only time his fights got slow is when they went over 7 rounds (which didnt happen to often). Ali super exciting in highlight reels, but he could be hot and cold as far as excitement.

I dont know. Tyson was exciting for a round or two, usually, but if fighters extended him he could be boring as hell. At least Ali could turn it on dramatically in later rounds.

Tyson was in his fair share of clinch-fests, and not all that can be blamed on his opponents. Tyson seemed to get bored and boring in longer fights. And a lot of his blow-outs were lame affairs, some of those guys were just looking for a way out.

Of course he was exciting, and his popularity shows that, but I dont think he was clearly more exciting than Ali.
Ali was phenomenal, let's face it.

I found a lot of Holyfields fights pretty boring as well as Lennox Lewis.

Floyd Mayweather Jr takes the cake for me though. No other fighter has reached the pinnacle of earnings in boxing with a style like that. Even Roy Jones took more chances than Mayweather.

EVERY fight Holyfield was in until Lewis and beyond was obscenely entertaining. Even his pro debut was a war.

The second Alex Stewart fight is the only Holyfield fight prior to about '98 that i remember as not entertaining.

Czyz, Holmes, Bean, Stewart, Ruiz, Moorer 1, Lewis. None were too exciting

True, and not always Holys fault for the boring fights, but his inability to knock guys out could sometimes turn it into a boring fight.

definiatly Ricky Hatton! He used to call himself P4P the most exciting fighter in the world!

An outrageous claim since many of fights especially his american fights i found completly unwatchable. How anyone could find his painfully dull hook hug and hold routine entertaining il never know.

Watch the Urango fight and tell me were u entertained....watch the castillo fight and tell me was it exciting?
