Frank Erne was good, but I think his record is extremely flattering.

There’s quite a lot of people here who don’t rate Tommy Morrison at all as a fighter or come to think about it, or as a man but he had a very good record when it comes to the numbers. Won about 50 fights or so and only lost 2 or 3 times which by the numbers is pretty good stats.

He won forty eight pro fights. Lost three and one draw.

Morrison was good and deserves respect but he was never elite.

I remember being quite surprised by how good Nielsen and Valuev's records are, if you go strictly by numbers.

Chuck Davey built up a good record. To me, he doesn't look so good on film. I think the promoters protected because he was a clean-cut college graduate type that people for some reason (unfathomable to me) came to view as at TV darling.

His record is so good that I must be missing something. Gavilan hammered him, but that was really not the disgrace people made it out to be, IMO, since the Keed was a darn good fighter. Still, Davey looks pretty mechanical. Maybe his southpaw style confused people at the time. There are more southpaws around today ever since most trainers stopped trying to turn them around. Consequently, I think right-handers see more of them and don't have as much trouble as they used too. At least the higher level fighters.

I know Basilio got a raw deal against Davey. Maybe others did too. I wouldn't go so far as to say the mob was directly involved in influencing the outcome of his fights without knowing more about it. But they may have been in the background, and the promoters and ring officials would have been aware of the buildup and might have been indirectly influenced. It's the way the world turns.
