There have been those on this forum, who have criticized fighters for a bad showing, where they literally broke a major arm bone.

    I mean seriously?

Rocky Mattioli would probably have lost to Maurice Hope anyway, but when he lost the JMW title, he very clearly had injured his hand (broken wrist actually) very early in the fight.

I would have agreed with you until this very morning when the knuckles and gloves boxing podcast introduced me to this tragic figure.

John L Sullivan broke his arm against Patsy Cardiff, and Jack Johnson broke his arm against Battling Jim Johnson.

I mean give the guys a break!

Vito Antuofermo went into his first fight with Marvin Hagler with bronchitis. Fought the entire 15 rounds coughing and still managed to pull out a draw.

Hector Thompson - was on a 10 bout winning streak and the #1 contender at 140 but blew out his knee in a 10 rounder with journeyman Javier Ayala. Despite winning the first couple of rounds he had to retire after 3 rounds.

When the defense so good you can shoulder roll a fall from 20,000 feet.

Glen Johnson always fought on the road ( hence his nickname “The Road Warrior ) and supposedly many of his losses were very debatable in his opponents home towns

Joe Hughes is pretty much a one armed fighter due to disability. Still, he made something of himself even after he was told to never box at all.
