Picked up this book a few weeks ago. Havent finished it yet but so far it has been good. Plenty of stuff on early Australian boxers, guys like Young Griffo, Les Darcy and Jack Carroll right through to the current guys. Well worth the money imo. :good

I visited the Hitman today and took him a copy of Fighters by Trade. Wally Carr was there visiting at his place and I read the Hitmans chapter to both of them. It was a bit flowery and they stopped me every minute with a new story but it was one of the funniest episodes of my life. The Hitman was wincing at a few of Robert Drane's descriptions but overall he was thrilled.
    I recommend the book strongly.

Great timing, my uncles bday is in May and Wally was one of his favourite fighters ever.

Back in the day I didnt even know who he was and found it strange that one of the more famous aussie fighters wasnt his favourite. But after gradually learning more about Wally I eventually saw why, true legend of oz boxing.

I'm amazed that he didn't get a chapter in the book with so much material on him. What a rollercoaster Wally has been through, from 5 Australian titles in different weight classes, to the grog, to the park bench and back to be sober and loving grandfather and community hero.
