Mustafa Hamsho is the man. He was considered to have the best chin in the middleweight division (and boxing full stop by many) for years.

lamon brewster - the wars he had during his wbo heavyweight title reign eroded his chin big time...it was terrible watching him stumble around and get beat down by helenius in his last fight

Rated even over Tex Cobb's at times in the early 1980s, on the grounds that his was more tested and proven in more frequent competition.

Mustafa's punch resistance certainly wasn't the same after Hagler II, but I don't think he completely lost it after that stage either. He stood up to LaLonde for 12 rounds, and Golden Boy could really hit with that right. (Donny wasn't weight weakened for Hamsho either, as he later was for SRL.) After Rocchigiani though, he was clearly kaput at 34.

LaMotta was 31 for Nardico, the same age Hamsho was for Hagler II. Jake had over twice as many fights against much harder competition, but he was also a highly accomplished amateur who was far more skilled defensively.

How can a chin be tested anymore then weathering the power of the likes of Earnie Shavers and Bernardo Mercado? I've heard the "slippery" ring bit about the Shavers/Cobb match, but even 75% of Shaver's full power would be far too much for most heavyweights throughout history to take flush. Shaver's was literally spinning Cobb's entire body around with landed shots to the head. Cobb simply reset himself and kept marching forward, like some kind of wind up soldier.

Lloyd Honeyghan when he fought Breland. His resistance was gone. People shour 'shot' about fighters way too often but that adjective was true of Honeyghan at that time.

speaking of etienne, i heard he took bombs from brewster and then suddenly he was suffering these flash knockdowns from brock and oquendo by shots to the temple.

Ahhhhh one who remembers. You might be right that it didn't entirely go, but after seeing the ridiculous amount of punishment he took off Hagler in their first fight then the ease in which he was done over in the rematch made him worth a mention. The punches that derailed in the rematch were eaten with a smile previously.

Seemed to me that Antonio Margarito's granite chin withered after he had the hand wraps removed and Mosley proceed to knock him out. it will interesting to see if the Pac man stops margarito this November, then Margarito definitely is on this list.

Mike Tyson after Douglas. Hard to believe he got stopped by Holyfield later on. Then again by Lewis. The aura of invinvibility was gone...
