I haven't seen this done here (I'm a newbie as you can see) so apologies if it has! The idea is to name a fighter and write about who YOU would like to see him fight. Don't be boring and just write a list but write a little bit about why you chose him and WHY you want to see him in those fights. Hoping for some good discussion people! For me I have to start with Andre Berto. Say what you want about him but all of his losses have been competitive and entertaining and I personally don't think he needs to retire and won't have trouble finding opponents. That said I do believe he is without a doubt at "gatekeeper" status. vs Kell Brook I think this fight will be a good test for Brook after he (probably) beats Senchenko and will give us an idea on how well he will perform against other top welterweights. vs Paulie Malignaggi Fairly safe fight where he won't have to worry about his face being messed up although Paulie will still give him problems in my opinion. vs Ruslan Provodnikov It's no secret that Berto likes having a tear-up so this should be all action! vs Victor Ortiz 2 Not immediate but there would still be demand for it I think. vs Josesito Lopez Lopez seems to be accepting whatever comes his way and this can either be a big win for Lopez or a way for Berto to get his hands on Ortiz again to try and avenge his loss and move back up the ladder. Hope you like the concept boys and girls now lets see what you got!
Hmmmm, very interesting match ups... I wouldn't mind seeing a Zab Judah, Keith Thurman or possibly even a Adrien Broner fight.. He has many options, but can't afford to lose to anyone at this point...
George Groves I like his mental toughness and the way he can adapt his game to different styles. I also admire the way he took the Degale fight when everyone said he didnt have a chance and i like the way he has gone head first into the Froch fight. vs Sakio Bika I think Groves has too much Firepower for Bike and would get a late accumulation stoppage. Bika looked poor in his last fight and is a far cry from the same man who boxed Calzaghe. vs James Degale If he gets through Froch id like to see him box Degale again and this time put it beyond doubt that he has his number. Last time he beat Chunky at long range this time id like him to go to war with James and show who has the superior power and accuracy. vs Kenny Anderson Has been accused of ducking a rematch with the Scot would love George to bash him up inside three rounds and show the world just how much he has improved. Robert Stieglitz Would of won that fight back in 2012 and would come through it now, would of been an easier option then froch. Arthur Abraham Although not world elite he is a very tough opponent and would be a real test of just how much gunfire George posseses. Mikkel Kessler Is shot to bits and like Glen Johnson would be a really good name on his resume.
James Degale vs a Lion The sharp teeth and claws would cause James all manner of problems and would undoubtedly highlight a weakness in James' defensive game. vs a Combine Harvester The variation of combinations thrown by the Harvester would make it a difficult contest for Degale. I think the Harvester would literally eat him up and spit him out. vs a Man with a Gun The speed of the bullet would be too much for Degale to handle, He would need a lot of head movement so as to avoid getting caught with what could prove a deadly shot. vs a Freight Train Once again the speed will be an issue, plus the sheer strength and perpetual motion would no doubt result in an early knock down.
Kevin Mitchell, Kevin needs decent domestic match ups before looking to move up to European and one last shot at the world scene and here is the fights I would like to see him have before then vs Martin Gethin A good tune up fight that would enable Kevin to get his hands on the British title and would also make fights against other contenders easier. vs Derry Mathews/ Curtis Woodhouse winner I'd like to see him against the winner of this bout next, I see him outboxing both of these guys but having a couple of sticky rounds. vs Anthony Crolla Again i would see Kevin outbox Anthony Crolla but i think this might be a closer points verdict than the others. If Crolla could stick to a plan it would be a good bout for the British and Commonwealth titles vs John Murray/Gavin Rees A fight against either of these for the British and Commonwealth titles would be a great fight and also help us evaluate if there is really anything to show he can mix it around Euro level. I know Rees got beat from Crolla but I see his style giving Kevin a few more problems imo. I'd then like to see him fighting for the European title having 4 good wins behind and maybe it being a world title eliminator. vs Emiliano Marsili This kid showed against Derry Mathews that he was a quality operator but at 36 i would expect Kevin to be a bit fresh for this kid and he is also a more naturally talented boxer than Derry and would be able to box without getting involved and would get him the European title vs Denis Shafikov i really believe that this would be a winnable fight for Kevin, he would have to be focused for the whole fight and not get caught against the ropes but i think he could outbox Denis and that this would put him right up there for a world title shot.
Tommy Coyle He was very very unlucky against Derry a silly mistake cost him the title but I'm sure he will come back stronger and judging by that performance will be a handful for most and good for the lightweight division. V Scott Harrison - A big name to get on his record and I think unfortunately Scott is a little shot so he should win quite comfortably. V Martin Gethin - I think he is the most beatable of the British fighters at lightweight I think he would pick up that title then go on to fight for British and Commonwealth titles. V Winner Woodhouse/Mathews - there is a bit of banter between Woodhouse and Coyle so this would make a ******* and I don't need to explain the rematch with Mathews V Anthony Crolla - I think both fighters have improved incredibly and feel this fight would be good to watch I think Tommy wins this one by a few rounds. V Winner Terry Flannigan/Liam Walsh - I don't think we will see Liam back at Super Featherweight.. A very hard fight to call and both are very talented boxers. I think Flannigan is the best of the prospects at lightweight both him and Coyle would be a chess match over 12 rounds
I really like GG and even though I don't see him winning against Froch (although I got a tenner on the KO lol) so I'm gonna tackle this as if he loses. Depending how he loses I'd like to see him: vs Kenny Anderson/Euro level opponent Against Kenny it would attract good attention, some banter at the press conference and I can't see George losing this so it would be a step back into winning ways. vs Sakio Bika I was going to say Abraham or Kessler but either man doesn't mean much if Groves were to beat them and knock them out at this point (unless he flattens Abraham). vs Julio Cezar Chavez Jr Eventually JCC is going to end up at 168 and if Britain keeps staying relevant in the 168 division then this fight SHOULD happen against either Groves or Froch. vs Degale If Groves has a belt still at this point I can see Degale winning one of the less important belts and this would be a nice unification fight as both boxers would have been in exciting fights by this point.
