Watched Joe Hipp vs Alex Garcia the other night. Garcia was the NABF champ despite losing to unranked fighters in his last 2 fights. Apparently, his belt wasn't on the line. Hipp came in ranked 5 by the WBC despite being stopped by Morrison and Bert Cooper and not beating a single ranked contender! The only time I remember a guy losing and getting ranked was Golota for fouling out twice against Bowe but he beat the crap out of Bowe. I can see a guy getting ranked by fighting to a draw against a ranked guy, but should a guy get ranked for losing even if he puts up a good performance?
Should they, no. But look at Nganou. He became a big name with the fury fight, and he sells more ppvs as a top 10
You shouldn’t but it’s hard not to. Let’s say we take a random 147lbs fighter unranked and he takes Robinson to the brink why not? lol.
Kahut won a semi final fight in the tournament to fight Walcott for the right to Louis's succesor. And because the decision was controversial the loser, Joey Maxim went to fight Charles in the final of that tourny. Also I can imagine Rademacher getting ranked after losing to Floyd right like Francis did? Also Francis probably should have won the Fury fight and been lineal champion. There was an unscored KD. The decision to rank Francis is pretty straightforward we're only questioning it because of what happened next. Have you seen the recent WBA rankings? Francis deserved to be ranked.
Otto Wallin was not ranked in any significant manner prior to losing to Fury. Obviously Ngannou amazingly being ranked as a top 10 guy after losing to Fury. Apparently Fury isn't a kingmaker but he's some kinda "Bishop" or "Rook" maker. Funny enough both men were shown their rankings were absurd and banished by Joshua
