* Disclaimer is some of it may be down to injuries or other issues. Also in a weeks time you can add another month on all these lengths of time. Some big names inactive, some others getting on and could do without the time out the ring, some decent prospects having their careers slightly stalled. Tyson Fury - 10 months David Price - 14 months Nick Webb - 12 months Riakporhe - 12 months Craig Glover - 13 months Callum Johnson - 21 months! Rocky Fielding - 13 months Eubank jr - 12 months but that was one and a half rounds against an injured Korobov, another 10 months before that he last had a proper fight. Liam Smith - 12 months Scott Fitzgerald - 14 months James Metcalf - 10 months Amir Khan - 17 months Josh Kelly - 12 months Terry Flanagan - 13 months Robbie Davies jr - 9 months Liam Walsh - 13 months Cordina - 13 months Martin J Ward - 10 months Anthony Cacace - 13 months Sam Bowen - 13 months Josh Warrington - 14 months Barry Awad - 10 months Leigh Wood - 10 months Jamie McDonnell - 18 months, retired? Isaac Lowe - 10 months Reece Mould - 14 months Gavin McDonnell - 14 months Kal Yafai - 10 months
Bang on. Josh Kelly will have been out the ring 13 months when he eventually fights next month. It would be understandable all this to a degree if there hadn’t been any boxing on at all...but there’s been quite a few and the cards have been woefully light on quality. We’ve even seen Shannon Courteney twice and Babic a few times.
All comes down to cash though surely. How much does it cost to put Courtenay and Babic on a card along with the opponents they are facing.
There are people (including boxers who are human as well) who may not want to take the risk of catching Covid given the uncertain long term impact on the respiratory system - some may even have caught it and still not recovered 100%. Similar to a Bank Robber who is not going to risk 10 years for a £500 haul - some will simply conclude that it is not worth risking health and career. The PPV Loot Brigade grossly overpaid so they take the risk but I have more time and respect for the lower paid fighters who still got in the ring. Hopefully the vaccination works on any new strains or another year of the same shyte in 2021. Thankfully we still got some boxing on with highlight of the year Tyson Fury beating Wilder and fight of the year/decade Dilmaghani v Ziani
Riakphore and Cordina both had injuries. Fitz and Jamie Mcdonnel have had issues out the ring Reece Mould and Wood fighting each other on the warrington can xu undercard
I think Covid-19 also killed any chance of Andrew Selby turning his career around, it seemed to be the final nail in the coffin, the bloke went from waiting around for a World Title shot to peddling Persian Rugs armed with a weapon if what we're led to believe is true.
He's never given a public reason which is surprising, you'd of thought that he'd of wanted to make sure no one could call him out for ducking. A reason on social m would of been the best thing for him. Mould and Wood is a top fight tbh. Mould is an exciting fighter but lacks experience over the championship distance whilst wood is more experienced but now in or around 33yrs old, which is old for a FW. I want Reece to win obviously, as I've been mentioning him on here for a few years now. but unless wood has aged overnight or should I say, aged since his fight with jazza, then experience might be woods best asset. Good fight this...Can't wait.
Coldwell said that Gill has surpassed British level since Gill has already beaten Cunningham, Belloti and Doyle. Apparently he wants Gill to fight Kiko Martinez for the European Title or fringe world level fighters. A bit like Leronne Richards I guess, who avoided fights against Umar Sadiq and Willy Hutchinson.
