Tyson went alllll the way back and mimicked Battling Nelson against Owen Moran in his fight with Larry Holmes at 34:12 to 34:16

Leonard did the Ali-shuffle a few times, also remember Holmes trying to dance like Ali and failing.

A younger, more stable Tyson also used to help his opponents up like his idol Dempsey, also had very similiar hair.

I always was a little confused about helping opponents up after you knock them out. On one hand it shows good sportsmanship but it could also be viewed as like "nice try slugger!" you need my assistance to make it to your feet haha Dempsey often did it, my favorite was against Georges Carpentier "lets get this poor ******* on his feet" lol Floyd Patterson helped up johansson to his feet after knocking him out so bad his foot was twitching I think Patterson honestly meant it in good sportsmanship. Tyson did it often sometimes he tried to pick the guy up faster than their corner lol again I think it shows good sportsmanship but also could be condescending Tyson trying to help up botha after he flattened him was hilarious

Good thread topic btw, Sugar Ray Leonard as aforementioned did the bolo punch like kid gavilan. Tyson's shoes were old school and his haircut was modeled after jack dempsey with the sides of his head shaved. Tyson really was old school in a lot of ways the peek a boo style used by patterson and torres is old school boxing for a swarmer. George Foreman's KO of Gerry Cooney reminded me a lot of JJ walcotts KO over ezzard charles. Foreman's cross armed defense was taught to him by archie moore so thats definitely old school James Toney loved ezzard charles as well. Foreman said he got his stare from liston if that qualifies. Pretty much every famous slick boxer tries to emmulate SRR most famously SRL and Ali.

Gavilan got the bolo off Ceferino Garcia i think it was

Foreman did like that kind of step in left hook/uppercut, did it after the first knockdown against Frazier as well didn't work as well as it did against Cooney though

The Little Rascals/Our Gang always thumb flicked the nose when fighting in
homage to Phantom Mike Gibbons. Not quite what the poster asked for but maybe in the zip code.

What I never get is why they never punch the boxer when they do **** like that, even a little feint would be good.

I like to picture a 15 year old Tyson going into the most ghetto barber shop in Brooklyn in the early 80's. With his high pitched voice he smiles and says "Gimme a Jack Dempsey!" and no one has a clue what he's talking about.
