Lewis is ridiculously overrated - particularly given he waited until the best fighters of his era (Holyfield and Tyson) were old and ready to be taken to fight them, or didn't fight them at all (Bowe, Moorer). Add to that he the ONLY top level HW champion taken out in the early rounds TWICE by second-rate opposition, and it is so obvious he's overrated it's not funny.
Lewis was older than Tyson. Maybe if Tyson hadnt been raping people, getting imprisoned for 4 years and getting suspended for biting peoples ears off, they may have fought earlier. Holyfield was still at the top of his game when Lewis fought him. Bowe throw the belt in the thrash rather than fight Lewis, who beat him in the amateurs.
Tyson was DONE when Lewis fought him, and Holyfield - who had been in many wars - was CLEARLY on the downside. Amateur fights mean NOTHING in the pros. Bowe didn't fight Lewis in '92 because it wasn't worth it. Lewis couldn't attract flies to a funeral at that point in his career. Clearly Boww's managment wanted to wait for that one to be worth more money. In any event, the bottom line is that Lewis never fought Bowe when it mattered.
Bowe opted to dump the WBC belt in a trash can rather than fight Lewis. Lewis raped a young Bowe with headgear, wonder why Bowe fear Lewis as a pro.
Lewis raped Bowe in the amateurs? 'Twas a typical early am stoppage after Lewis landed a couple of right hands in the 2nd round, the 1st round was close. Bowe was only 21, Lewis was in his 2nd Olympics & far more experienced. That result has no impact whatsoever on how a pro fight wouldve gone. Lewis turned down a career high payday & chose to wait until the WBC stripped Bowe rather than fight him.
:deal Bowe's camp offered 12 milion right? And Lewis chose to fight the bum Frank Bruno and HIV positive Tommy Morrison! LOL!
I think it was closer to $3m, dont remember the exact number. Btw, Bruno was no bum & Lewis fought him after he beat Tucker. He didnt fight Tommy until 1995.
Steward and your hero Lewis himself state that this was the time to beat Mike because he was DONE. Tyson was the king of the 80s and peaked while he was young according to Lewis. Lewis was like "fine wine" and in his prime in accordance to his own words, remember? Tyson was out of his prime for over a DECADE and was largely inactive and only fighting for money. He didn't even like boxing then and was shot beyond belief and was on every drug you can think of, illicit or prescription. Couple that with years of alcohol abuse, mental instability, and little to none training. Lewis was nothing ... just a bum fighting Tyson left overs and was KTFO twice by B level fighters. A british glass jawed hype job. He even commented on how Tyson took some monster shots and didn't fall ... he broke his hand on Tysons jaw and took EIGHT ROUNDS to finish him off after he had quit around round 4 or something. It was a farce of a fight and means nothing. Tyson was iron and Lewis was glass.
