Should they be required to put on the weight? Does it really help a fighter to add 5-6 pounds to move up in class? Why not allow them to fight at their natural weight if they want to challenge a bigger guy for his title? Screw unifying at heavy, lets see one slick skinny dude unify all the titles in all divisions. Bring the women over here too, Anne Wolfe coulda beat a lot of male pros. Too many regulations. Bottom line- I want to see Manny Pacquiao vs Wladmir Klitschko, and lets see if Mayweather can out-box Vitali. Do it ****ers.
I don't think you can win a title at the specified weight unless you actually fight at that weight though? I haven't read into it thoroughly. That being said if I was a little guy who couldn't cut it in my flyweight division I'd move up to heavy and make fools out of some of the slower ones for big pay-days. I think people would pay to see it too.
In the new Fight Night game my step-brother picked Holyfield and I picked Pac, I stopped him via cuts in the 10th so it must be true that Pac can bang with legendary heavies. That being said I had to do an outstanding amount of clinching and running, I may have slipped an elbow or two in.. Really though it would be interesting at least. Pac is faster on his feet with better handspeed, he throws a little wider than Wlad though. He'd have to stand face to tit with Wlad to even reach up and hit his head. Wlad is known to be timid..if he was timid against Pac ala Mcline he may well get UD'd or TKO'd. If he completely disrespects Pac he's got a good shot of landing while Pac is coming in and ending it early. Either way Pac has to be the aggressor, southpaw or not that jab is too long for him to have any kind of game on the outside. Not to mention Wlad's fist is so big compared to Pac's head, every punch is like a head-butt. Anyway..talk about a fight that will never happen. It would be far too dangerous, although I am of the opinion that fighters should be able to fight who they want when they want and die in the ring if they prefer, the rest of the world does not agree.
One thing I wondered a while back is how Pacquiao vs valuev would play out, i honestly believe pac can win every round. Imagine the hype that fight would bring, that would be reall Mouse vs Giant.
That's the problem with these fantasy bouts between light and heavy boxers. The smaller guy would probably have success early with the speed difference, etc...but there is very little chance the smaller guy can get the bigger guy out before 12 rounds. That's 12 rounds for the bigger guy to catch the smaller guy with 1 or 2 punches...the smaller boxer would no doubt get too cocky and confident, and walk onto a hayemaker.
When you get a guy going into a ring outweighed by 40 or 50lbs against top fighters, you are further increasing the chance of somebody getting seriously hurt. Stupid idea and terrible thread.
