To me it's clear who had the better resume, and it's clear that most of Hearns' wins are over fighter's not quite at their best.

Yeah, I definitely spoke out of turn when I said Hearns might have a better resume than Rodriguez.

Saensak Muangsurin doesn't really merit a mention at all.
Hearns did have a win against Angel Espada though.

Saensak was champ only the year before. I think he's worthy of inclusion, although it does nicely highlight how poor his resume at the weight actually is.

And yeah, must've forgotten to write Espada. I thought I pasted him in.

Not with Basilio. He's actually 0-1 with Cardell, never fought Ortega nor Turner at the weight and didn't separate himself from an aging Graham.

Yeah, that's how I see it. I don't see him as an all-time great welterweight at all really.
His reputation is that he moved up to middleweight and won the title there, all credit to him.

Top fighter but yes we certainly agree Hearns is ahead of him at 147 mate.

I'd like to see the argument for Barney Ross ahead of him.

Won the trilogy with Jimmy McLarnin.
Beat Billy Petrolle when Petrolle was #1 at welter.
    Beat Ceferino Garcia three times.

For starters he beat Ceferino once at welterweight.

I like Ross a whole lot better at 140. McLarnin and Petrolle would be boom Junior Welters as well.

Hearns's resume falls off badly after Cuevas, and Cuevas was not world champion at the time, or ever. Duran was. And you'd have to say Leonard was #1 contender to Duran.
So .... Hearns KO2 Cuevas, although a great win, and by far Hearns's best at 147, doesn't quite stand up to ATG resume.
Then after that, there's nothing that would be considered particularly outstanding.

No, he beat Cardell. He fought Turner in a non-title fight while he was welterweight champion. Very harsh to not include. My mistake, I thought he'd dropped back down for Ortega. Graham was coming off his best win in years.

Even still, it's all still more impressive than beating Cuevas and a handful of aging contenders, whom arguably weren't even as good as the likes of Saxton and DeMarco even at their best.
