hey, it took a decade for me to "fall in love" with. when i stared out boxing, all i wanted to see and fight like was rocky balboa. or a chavez etc.

i hated guys like camacho etc.

but since my early 20´s, i started to appreciate the cuties (im 36 now).........fighters the casual fan just can like.

cause as we all know, the casual fan wants to see a tearup (and nothing wrong with that).

but lets talk about your cutie favorites. name them or your favorite fights where the cutie spoiled the party.

one of my favorite fights is a title defense of David Reid vs some unkown guy from australia called kevin kelly (weird name for an aborigine).

the guy was something like a 30-1 outsider. he had fought only local talent in not exactly talent rich australia, couldnt punch a lick and was talented in any way.

reid, the olympic gold medalist, undefeated, had all the advantages: far more powerfull, more seasoned (dispite having fewer fights)........hell, he even looked two weightclasses bigger.

but guess what: mr. olympia got his ass floored in round 4 and should have lost on points but got a gift decision. against a guy he should have blown out.

what happened?? well, mr. kelly got "cute" on him, thats what.

another one of my favorite cuties is a welter called manning galloway..........who actually held the wbo welter title in the early ninetees.
he made no bones about his style. his nickname was "the spoiler".

even into his mid 40´s, he managed to end the career of then hot prospect and olympic silver medalist ricardo williams.

One of the supreme cuties of all time, that I have a great appreciation for is Jersey Joe Walcott. Films of his trademark side to side moves, and his walk-away move and other tricks are hugely fun to watch, as is the resulting confusion and aggravation that came from his opponents as a result. Another latter day heavyweight that could be descibed a cutie was the cult favorite Mike "The Bounty Hunter" Hunter, whom I enjoyed as well.

I always liked Marlon Starling - he could be pretty awkward.

Anyone else remember "The Starling Stomp"?

Greg Haugen comes to mind. Also, though not cuties, many South American fighters (Baldomir) are so damn awkward they cause all kind of problems with more orthodox fighters.

................I haven't seen too much of him, but Gaspar Ortega would seem to fit this bill.

There used to be a solid, wormanlike guy named (I think) Eric Holland, a junior middleweight I believe. Crappy record, but he made everyone else look like ****.

Jack Delaney, amazing boxer. Look great in the few fight films there are out there on him.

Jack Johnson, needs to be said, I know modren fight fans dislike all that holding, but in Johnson's day, that was the name of the game.

    Gene Tunney,
Ali, I suppose. If it was not for Ali's chrisma, And Fraizer not being a action pack fighter, I think Ali would be view more boring.

    Ezzard Charles, Larry Holmes, SRL.

Ralph 'Tiger' Jones, Holley Mims, Joey Giardello, Georgie Benton, Harold Brazier and one of my favorite spoilers, the Boogey man, Jesse Ferguson. I always appreciated his win over Ray Mercer.

I liked Jake 'The Snake' Rodriguez, he became a title holder from less than promising roots.

I always remember a British fighter by the name of Jon Thaxton who was on his way to a WBO title shot before getting injured. He came back against an unknown American Journeyman by the name of Emanuel Burton. Anyone who knew anything about the game made a killing that night. Burton really was a cuties cutie....

Irony being if you knew the game you stuck your mortgage on a young Thaxton fighting Scrap Iron Ryan, the fight which made Thaxton's name.....

Wow, I don't even remember posting in this thread. :D

Anyway, for more modern names, Freddie Pendleton comes to mind. Wins over Roger Mayweather, Livingston Bramble, and Tony Lopez always seemed to happen at the worst possible time for his opponents, and the most unlikely for himself.
