look at Adrienna broners case. He had much better buzz until his loss to maidana who nobody really knew at the time, even after fighting khan, Ortiz, etc. Now look at Timmeh's case, his only losses are to king pac who everyone knows, and he actually gained more fans from that loss. Now look at Brook who got stopped by GiGi. He gained a larger fan base after that fight, now if he loses to Spence, his fan base will be cut in half because Spence is unknown.

Brook was unknown before the Golovkin fight and he still is in the United States. I don't know what fans you mean, maybe in England, but Brook has some ****ing nerve calling someone unknown when he is still chasing and begging a man (Khan)that was chasing and begging a man(Mayweather). Spence is in the same boat Brook was in before he sold his 0 to K2 for his first million dollars.

Incomplete point. Bradley and Brook did not risk much because they were underdogs against those opponents, and even their fans knew that. If you lose to a guy you were supposed to defeat, then people start to understand that they probably overrated you and then you lose those fans. And there's nothing peculiar about it.

I did not know Maidana was unknown.

But your main point is a good one.

Define "unknown"? The only active fighter that is known to the average sports fan is Manny Pacquiao. Kovalev, Ward, GGG, Canelo, Cotto, Loma. Basically the biggest draws in the sport of boxing today, the only people who really know who they are people who pay attention to boxing.

I am thinking of people who pay attention to boxing. Why would we be talking about people who don't watch the sport?

And your saying non boxing fans only know Pacquiao is overstated. Women especially know more about boxing than people realize. I was sitting next to a female lawyer recently who told me she was from Youngstown. I said aren't there famous boxers from Youngstown? She said yes, Kelly Pavlik and Ray Mancini. People know these things.

This sort of talk reminds me of a time at the Ft Worth Golden gloves tournament. I saw a little peewee guy of 8 years old sobbing his heart out. His "coach" had told him to get lost he only wanted winners & he was useless' So I asked him " Tell me did you do your best in your fight "? He said " Yes but he's had lots of fights Ive only had 2" So I said " You cant do better than your best so youre a winner not a loser aren't you " That made him smile.
Moral to this story is that that so called coach was kicked out of Golden Gloves. That kid a few years later won 2 Texas State GG titles & went on to the Nationals. He came to gym & reminded me of our chat & said " You made me keep boxing CJ you were right I was a winner" That really made me feel great

The average sports fan knows who Tom Brady, Ray Lewis, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, etc. are. Boxing is a niche sport which almost never has any fighter cross over into the mainstream. It may not even be possible anymore in the current environment for anybody to do that.

I disagree. Boxers past and present are much better known than you imagine.

Maidana before the Broner fight was known as a 'slow unskilled caveman brawler ' who was about to be AB's next easy victim.

    Maidana replied "F**k That"

    The rest was history..

I dunno. It's 50/50 because Brook is under rated as a fighter and Spence has yet to be tested. One thing I know for certain is that if Brook was from the U.S. he would have been hyped to the hills properly.
