People claim how great Duran is,top 10 atg is common place because he fought and lost convincingly to hagler hearts,Leonard twice etc.
Has anyone else garnered such respect through losing efforts ?

Duran did gain respect by dominating the lightweight division for 8 years as no one before or after him.

Duran earned legendary status not from his losses......he earned it by how he completely dominated in his prime and at his best weight class then moved up to beat bigger men who were also great. Roberto has a superb resume

Lost to Leonard but also beat Leonard's ass. All u are talking about happened way outside of his true weight division. He's one of the best lightweights ever. Get your head straight.

What others have said; was a legend before he even fought SRL. beats the P4P number 1 fighter and a true ATG. Gave the greatest middleweight ever a close, tough fight. Won belts against good fighters well above his natural weight.

Not already mentioned, but equally as important; Duran is a H2H nightmare for any style.

Yeah, because Duran is considered great solely because of to whom the guy lost. He certainly doesn't have anything worthwhile in his W column...

Duran is the greatest fighter ever caught extensively on film.

    He's incredible.

Hey dumbass. All great fighters have losses. You can make the argument that every single ATG fighter has a loss on his record.

    Let's break down your post.

Pacquiao gained legendary status after beating Barrera.
DLH gained legendary status after beating Pernell.
Morales gained legendary status after beating Pacquiao.
Barrera gained legendary status after beating Morales twice.
Hopkins gained legendary status after beating Tito.

All these were beating great fighters, not only losing.

    Tyson isn't a legend. Cotto isn't a legend.
