You wrote all this and still didnt understand the question OP asked.. Every fighter loses when you fight the best, and sometimes its the losses that propel you to the next level fortunately for the fighters i listed they all achieved Greatness and Legendary status for losses and their wins...You shouldnt have jumped the gun because youre behind a keyboard..

I have him at 6 on my all-time p4p list and obviously, that's mostly based on who he BEAT.

But, as Harold always says, I gotta tell ya, IB, I rank his loss to Hagler up there with some of his middle-of-the-road wins.

this is true the thing is Duran was great before most of us were watching boxing , after the no mass fight he fought at 154+which was way out for him..

had crushing defeats and its the no mass fight which was a disgrace he was clearly drained Lenard spoke of wanting to get him early knowing he was struggling with making weight, after that 2 sets of back to back losses the crushing loss to Tommy was a very low point, but all after the no mass fight was actually the end of Duran
i can see why some people get curious as after he become well world famous when he beat Lenard after he couldnt really get a big win , yes he beat barkly perhaps a statement letting people know he is still the hands of stone, and that at some 160 right?!
my father in law always spoke of Duran and i always used to bring up his losses Duran was a legend up to 147

Roger Mayweather thinks that Roberto Duran was the best Hispanic boxer ever. He said it in one of the HBO 24/7 episodes. I think it was for the Cotto fight. Floyd last fight with HBO. Well I value his opinion being that he fought and beat a lot of Mexican fighters etc.

a big part of duran's appeal is not that he was such a great fighter...a big part of his appeal is that he was very POPULAR. He was a very tv friendly fighter who reigned at lw for quite a few years, so fans were very familiar with him and that made him a sentimental favorite...he always brought lots of action and a charismatic roughneck quality especially in contrast to the more clean cut srl who was his arch enemy at the time fight mags starting calling duran top ten atg.

No question duran was the best hispanic fighter ever...the question is, do his accomplishments at lw merit consideration among top ten atg?...because outside of lw, his resume is basically no better than say, iran barkley and certainly not as good as ssm.

Now, if one really examines his resume, he doesn't belong among in the top 10 all time. losing to esteban dejesus in the first fight and struggling with dejesus and ray lampkin and guys like that...compare him at lw to pac, fmj, ssm, pea...those guys clearly beat him. even kostya tszyu, aaron pryor, arguello, jmm and corrales would give duran a run for his money at lw. pryor beats him, probably by ko...jmm would be a tossup. corrales would ko duran at lw...but then i just said duran was the best hispanic fighter ever, so maybe that's not true either.

tbh, i don't think duran was even the best lw up to his time...ike williams and henry armstrong would have a lot to say about that.

Outside of lightweight, he beat Sugar Ray Leonard Davey Moore and Iran Barkley. That's clearly better than anything Mosely ever did in his career. In fact, Mosely's resume at lightweight is thin. "These guys clearly beat him," I wonder how you can be so sure. Just for the record, DeJesus and Lampkin give any of them problems. You are vastly underrated them. I would love to know your opinion on Ken Buchanan. Nah, not really. Actually I would have loved to see any of them get fat, move up to middleweight and beat Iran Barkley. Actually Sweat Pea got derailed at welter against ODLH, so that theory goes out the door. Prior probably knocks Duran out? Really? You are aware that Duran wasn't knocked out until Hearns at 154, aren't you? Corrales kos Duran? You have no idea how ridiculous that sounds. JMM is a toss up? The same fellow that lost to Chris John amongst others at feather, lol? Kostya, the same fellow that got stopped by Vince Phillips? Oh btw, you are aware that Duran stopped 2 guys that beat Alexis Arguello, aren't you?

He has a superb resume and was an animal in his prime. The brawl in Montreal was one of the greatest wins of all time, and the farcial rematch is an embarrassment.

He was also fighting, and in many cases beating naturally far bigger men.

It's a shame he had a poor work ethic though.

I love Duran, but there was this guy named Benny Leonard that dominated the lightweight division in a time when some of the greatest lightweights were campaigning in it. Funny enough, Duran's trainer actually trained the great Benny Leonard when he came out of retirement to fight again. I'm pretty sure Ray Arcel would agree that Benny Leonard is the greatest lw champion in the history of the sport.

Lol... Just off this thread alone you can tell your knowledge of Duran's accomplishments is severely lacking.
