To start: Rodrigo Valdez: It's criminal that he's not in. Just criminal. Esteban DeJesus Ernesto Marcel And I'd personally say that John Conteh, Michael Nunn, and Sumbu Kalambay should make it. Others?
Gilberto Roman should have been a slam dunk years ago. Rafael Herrera Marvin Johnson Lionel Rose Santos Laciar
Marlon Starling Miguel Lora Yuri Arbachakov Sot Chitalada Santos Laciar Sumbu Kalambay Gilberto Roman Michael Nunn I also have a soft spot for Alberto Davila and I think he just about nicks it in IMO.
Calderon has only been on the ballot for two years but I think he should been in and probably will. Michalczewski should get a long look for his twenty title defenses but I understand why some would say no considering he never fought Jones or Tarver. He still had some good wins. Next year Sergio Martinez is eligible and should be a first ballot entry in my opinion.
If Virgil Hill made it then I see no reason why Dariuz should be left out. Michalczewski is a lot more deserving than McGirt.
IBHOF voting is done by boxing writers, correct? It kind of makes you wonder how these guys are so poorly educated on the sport that they cover. I was hoping this year, which was a down year compared to last year, would see one of the long-omitted guys get a deserving call. Unfortunately that opportunity was wasted on Buddy McGirt. Nothing against Buddy, but others were more deserving of that induction.
Virgil Hill is underrated here. Do you guys know how many title fights he had? 3 reigns at two weights.
Hill was great no doubt. He absolutely deserves his place in the hall. What do you think of Maske? He seems like a guy with a decent case to make it as well.
I don't think it's a case of them being uneducated. I think it's a case of them not being objective... voting fighters in on their biases.
Looking at the classes since 2010, it dawned on me that they are inducting guys form the 80's, 90's and 00's mostly, meaning if a fighter retired before 1980, your chances of making it are very slim for 2019 and beyond. The old timer category should be retired soon as they are often fringe picks and were almost of out fringe level candidates. I think the rules say three need to make it, but there is no minimum requirement, which explains McGrit making the cut as the 3rd man.
