I saw an interview with Carl Froch where he said he took a pain killing injection for a cracked rib before the Pascal fight. i was quite suprised.

i understand a footballer like leadly king taking pain killing injections to get through a match, but a boxer tkaing pain killing injections, surley thats not allowed.

a big part of boxing is inflicting puncishment in your opponent, surley pain killing injections will stop this.

for example, cotto could not take anymore agaisnt margorito, maybe if he had taken pain killing injections before the fight he would of lasted the full 12.

he had a valid injury. Just a local injection where the injury was. It's not like he was pilled up so he could not feel pain anywhere. He aint ..... Mr T

That would make no difference to any further punishment inflicted.

Actually would be very stupid and dangerous, pain mechanism is there for a reason.

Cotto would have needed a brain injection to keep fighting against Margo. Localised pain relief is valid in a sense it allows you to continue training through it but come fight night, to fight through pain you can't take due to inhibitors is just dumb and will shorten anyone's career.

yeah its legal but that dont make it right

a fighter should only get in the ring when there 100%

I have had these pain injections before and they are for localised pain and do not help in any other areas.

I've heard that he also had a perforated eardrum as well - hard as nails! I don't blame JC for running off to the seniors circuit.

Hopkins had to have them in his arse after the JC fight.

Cotto would have got KO'd if he'd have had pain killing injections for the Margo fight.

De La Hoya had one in his hands for one of his fight's.

Of course this allowed him to throw hard punches without feeling any pain and if he damaged his hand even more he still woudl'nt be able to feel pain.

I don't like it because it can alter the outcome of a fight but how many fighters go into a fight 100%?

If every fighter had to be 100% we'd have a lot more pull out's than we do right now.

It sounds highly dangerous to me - desensitising parts of your body then pounding them senseless.

it would severly effect your performance. it will slow you down and make you lathargic.....also i cant train if i have had a few ibups. my body feels all out of whack. no snap or anything... my body feels a quarter inch smaller. so i over extend and miss...it is a drug in th eend all and enough of it will cause problems later.

after the fight they have doctors on hand to give you a safe cocktail of painkillers and relivers...anyone seen the HBO special edit to the end of ward-gatti III ? you can see micky munching into a pack asprin.

Cortisone injections are part and parcel of some athletes lives.
