Fighter's That Benefited From Rounds Going From 15 to 12?

Any heavyweight over 225 lbs?

The big guys like Lewis or Wlad or Fury ete. If it was back to 15 the heavyweight will go back to the 200 pounds.

 

My man Tommy Hearns. He could go a decent 15 against guys that weren't overly pressuring him, even great ones but 10-12 really suited him best particularly at 160.

You should also start a thread about what sort of guys were most suited to 15 rounders. Long range specialists so to speak. It would be a great little pair of threads.

 

I think Salvador Sanchez and Eusebio Pedroza were great 15 round fighters and those extra 3 rounds definitely suited them.

There aren’t that many. The difference is overrated.

guys got comparatively lazy and it was the end of the true stamina beasts like Marciano, Frazier, Ali, when guys were still banging in 13-15 and especially when one of them scored a necessary knockdown or KO like Ali Frazier or Marciano Walcott it was always a better and more exciting fight, Duran and Hagler were 15 round fighters

I want to say Tyson, but he rarely needed more than 7 rounds to finish it so 12 or 15 would be irrelevant, and he never really looked gassed in a bit deeper water like he was still unleashing on Ribalta enough to get the ref to stop it in 10

I think when fighters started getting bigger and more flat footed they benefited from 12, Evan Fields at times, Bowe, Lewis, Moorer, Morrison, Klitschkos

Modern heavies are more like 8-10 round fighters

 

Great point JT. Hearns legs seemed to tire around the 6th-8th rd in all his fights. And the more pressure he received, the earlier his legs seemed to go..

 

I'm not sure how Wlad would do fighting 15 rounds.

 

He'd probably be fine given all the clinching and slowing he did.

 

Actually think Vitali is a guy that would have handled 15 rounds very well.

Especially factoring in the recent heavies that are only 12 rounders and trying to picture them in rounds 13 and 14 against Vitali would be ugly.

That's one fight but ironically SRL was a great fighter over those extra 3 rounds at his best. He finished over Hearns and fought really well in those last 3 rounds against Duran in a pretty grueling fight. People say Duran knew he had it in the bag and eased off but i'm not completely sold on that. Duran had gone hard for a long time and if he could have kept hammering he would have given the spite in the contest. He also would have been worried about the golden boy getting potential favoritism in the scoring.
