also, hasim rahman. one punch win for the heavyweight title...then instead of a winnable fight with tyson for TONS of money, he rematched a focused and near peak lewis to get dethroned

Wasnt it a detached retina that derailed his career after the liston fight just when it was heating up. Its a real pity he never got the chance to go further.

...Guess with the memory fresh in his mind of Lewis laid-out, J, Rahim thought he'd be a piece-a-cake again.

Leotis was having some vision problems in late-1968, and was further damaged
in fights with Wendell 'Fig' Newton and Roger Russell.

Sonny really banged up his eye, and Leotis was risking blindness if he continued.

36-Pro fights, and tough amateur days since 1958.
Throw-in some busting sparring sessions, and thats 12-years of battling.

Good articles about him in the Phialdelphia Inquirer, 1969/1970.
from his manager William Schaeffer and one-time trainer Gene Johnson.

Sparred with Sonny Liston in Philadelphia 1961,1962,
Las Vegas and Miami Beach 1963.
    In Sweden in 1967.

But Navarette could have fought lower risk fighters & " cashed in" by defending against Camacho?
