I wouldn't count Khan as FAILING a gut check. His chin sucks for sure, but every time he's been in trouble in the ring he's always had the balls to fight back, he just can't handle the punches

I was basing that on the fact that there was a fair bit of hype behind him before that fight, and overconfidence cost him. No doubt that he's gone onto bigger and better things since then, but that was the first time the hype train derailed, shall we put it.

Gotcha...I didn't catch if anybody said it yet but Devon Alexander fits into this category...good fighter but Tim Bradley gave him hell in their fight and he didn't know how to respond

    :-(

****, those are all bad examples. Mitchell fought back but got knocked out. Price got knocked out with one shot in the first fight. Thompson was just too good in the rematch.

    Gut check, not chin check.

Hmmm...Banger, you don't happen to have someone in mind do you? Someone who keeps getting those TKO3s and is fighting on Sat? You didn't start this thread in the hopes someone would mention him by any chance? Hows about you say so if that's what you think, instead of hedging it 'til after the fight?;)

Not true, it's just that he was so good at one time that few opponents were competitive with him.

Obviously when he's on the slide fights are gonna look more competitive and he is likely to lose.

A recent one is Hamer vs Glazkov.

While Hamer lost the 4th comfortably against Glazkov he wasn't being embarrased and appeared to just quit. I don't like saying that about boxers but thats what it looked like.

Probably wasn't going to be a world beater but that loss confirmed it.

  14. That's a good example of somebody passing a gut check

  15. A few people not understanding this thread are they.
Your examples are just 1st defeats for the boxer in question.khan and particularly lacy in these fights cannot be accused of lacking heart.
