Wlad. The loss to Purrity. Maybe his loss to Brewster can be viewed in that manner also. But Wlad's made a great comeback and has now been a formidable force for years.

Excellent example in a post almost exclusively filled with guys who pass check after check but lose to the better man on the night.

Hamer was leading in that fight 3 rds to 1 on my card and was using his jab with excellence. But like you saw, and I saw, when Glaskov starting applying the pressure, Hamer essentially gave up.

Something about having the flu earlier in the week, IDK....either way, he shoulda went out on his shield.:think

    How so????

How was getting his chin cracked failing a gut check?

He fought on and on in that fight until the ref stepped in.

Also.....he went down to the wire against Andrade, got up, and got the W.

So he passed his gut check.:patsch

Against Andrade he should have lost. Had that fight not have had a hometown ref his O was gone that night. Rewatch it.

Against Froch he did absolutely nothing but take it once he realized Froch game to fight. In the corner by round 2 he looked totally deflated.

The Andrade fight I can kind of see your argument. But the Froch fight?! Cmon man, no way.

    Whatever.....

If you hate Bute fine.....but don't come on here talking the Andrade KD and expect to win an unwinnable argument.

If you know boxing then you know you have to be UP at 10 or your out. You can NOT be saved by the bell, and IF you must continue to fight, you MUST be able to fight or the ref, AT HIS DISCRETION, can then rule the fight over by TKO.

    Bute arose at 8 second.
    The fight was then OVER.
Since there was no time to fight on, Bute didnt need to be able to continue.

If this had happened in 1909 instead of 2009, Andrade would have had as many rds as he needed.

However, Bute wouldnt have had gloves on, so the shots he hit Andrade with for 11 1/2 rds wouldve likely KILLED Andrade.

As for Froch....he fought with a desperation that Bute had not experienced.
Lucian felt he could match Froch shot for shot and learned quickly he was wrong.:-(

I don't really see Andrade as a gut check. He whipped his as for 11 1/2 Rounds and got caught at the very end.

Froch was a gut check. From the very beginning it became painfully obvious that he was in above his head. And to me, he seemed to fold. I guess I have a different opinion of what I was seeing than you do. :good

Heard about the flu excuse a while ago too but has he actually discussed the fight recently? I remember reading about Malik Scott saying that its well known that Hamer has no passion for the sport.

Agree about some of the poor choices here. Lacy got battered by Calzaghe for 12 rounds and continued to fight until the bell. Khan doesn't have a good chin but his heart shouldn't be questioned.

How did Kell fail he fought through a broken nose to a decision, that is what you call passing through a gut check with flying colors.Alot of guys would have given up or quit after sustaining an injury like that so early in a fight.

correct, Brook passed that gut check, the amount of blood from that broken nose was ridiculous, he spent the last 4/5 rounds swallowing that blood which effected his breathing. Brook passed that gut check seeing out the 12 rounds and still finding something to come on strong in the 12th.

Don Curry is a good example v Honeygun.

Tyrell biggs passed a bit of a gut check prior to Tyson when he was behind and got a bad cut versus David Bey and came back to stop him.

David Price is a terrific example, stopping bums by early ko and then bang!! - got a gut check off someone who could fight back and got exposed massively.
