I agree, Lacy never failed a gut check, he showed remarkable heart, he was just badly outclassed.

True about Khan, Khan has the heart of a warrior, its just a shame he has the chin of a Team Barry member.

Roy Jones Jr. Every time he has faced adversity, he has folded like a lawn chair. He has no Chin. None.

when you say gutcheck what where really talking about is heart.

price was knocked out in the first fight,he tried to continue

the second fight he punched himself out and was taking an a** wooping but never quit.if anything he showed heart.so i wouldn't really consider those as failing a gut check

This is untrue. Tyson had some tough fights and lost rounds. I remember him beating Ruddock barely. Tyson was just mentally checked out of the buster fight and out of shape and from then on he was never the same, not to mention the jail vacation. Nobody broke tyson but himself.

Maidana broke Ortiz in their fight but Ortiz came back to really show guts against Berto.

Foreman was taking a beating against moorer before KOing him.

Mike took 9+ rounds of punishment against Buster, and was finally put down, and you say this, lmao.

Wlad was tired against Purrity, a fight he had in the bag, and just quit. He also punched himself out against Brewster, shook his head no, and basically said no more.

The Ruddock fight was after Douglas right?

The question is: name a fighter that failed their first gut check.

Well, Douglas was the first person to really take it to Tyson and Tyson wasn't able to push through and win.

The only people who were even remotely competitive with Tyson before then were TNT Tucker/Bruno. And neither of those fights count as a gut check.

I am not saying he quit or anything but he mentally couldn't pull through.

It had nothing to do with anything mentally. Did Sugar fail his gut check against Duran?

Gut check imo means how you lost, not just losing your first fight.

If you watched the fight, Tyson did everything in his power to win. He even floored Buster who was almost counted out. Tyson was ko'd by a vicious uppercut/combo. Losing doesn't mean that he failed his first gut check. It's how you lost. Tyson showed plenty of guts in that fight.

I thought he showed a good amount of heart in Tarver 1. Underrated win and showed he could take some punches.

Roy Jones was clear as day gifted in the first Tarver fight.
Jones was'nt happy with himself thats why there was a rematch.

    What is having no
chin got to do with lack of heart? Floyd Patterson was one of the bravest fighters ever but was knocked down numerous times in his career.
In some ways the weak chinned fighters are the bravest.
