Who are some fighters that you can think of that fought in a style that is reminiscent of the great Sugar Ray Robinson?
Even though I already am aware of a few that resembles him, I am still very curious to see what others think and are going to suggest.

How about Ezzard Charles at light heavyweight?

That's funny. Although whenever you think of a template of what a boxer is Robbie's is the image that comes to mind, I don't think I know any fighter that fights exactly like Robbie. LHW Ezz doesn't remind me of Robbie. Bratton does to some extent but I think Robbie was smoother and a little more dynamic, creative. Futch used to compare Holman Williams to Robbie in terms of class but without some more footage to back it up we can't tell. I used to think Ike Williams and Kid Gavilan reminded me of Robbie but I don't anymore at all.

    On Occassion..perhaps looking through a squint...Ike Williams

Jimmy Ellis had some interesting moments of attacking fluidity which were quite sweetésque

Lionel Rose....though only in boxing\fencing mode as Rose couldn't punch his way out of a paper bag and thus never unleashed combinations like Robinson.

he had a similar body rhythm and stance when just boxing though.

Ezzard Charles always struck me like a more defensively savy but less aggressive (and less durable) version of Robinson. I think the differences were mostly in temperament, owing mostly to Charles' more reserved disposition.

As far as actual composite physical gifts go they were virtually identical.

More recently, the Oscar De La Hoya who fought under Jesus Rivero was similar to SRR. I'm speaking of his period between Ruelas through Miguel Angel Gonzalez.

who was the young New York middleweight who either died or walked away from boxing disillusioned by it. Was it Marti Servo?

he was a 'stylist' and I seem to remember he was being compared to Ray Robinson.

I'd say a lot of slick first class boxers were Robinson like, though with Ray's tall lean build and rhythm he probably just looked that bit nicer.

Britain's Ernie Roderick was a stylist and not so long ago Michael Watson.

but I would have to vote for Camacho over all, just a pleasure to watch when on top form!

Jose Napoles, I think, had a style that had flashes of SRR.

I agree to some extent. With Ray being smoother and Napoles funkier though.

Wasn't Tommy Bell considered to fight like Robinson?

Let me just say this. I cannot think of anyone who put it all together in a style the looked like Robinson, nevermind the results.

Off the top of my mind

at 135. If you subtract the defense and just focus on his footwork, jab, and, setting traps, I think he fought similar. Take the second Ramirez fight. He fought behind the jab, but he keep backing away and setting traps for Jose to run into. If he hit harder, he would have stopped a lot more fighters and probably focused less on defense. He would have really looked like Robinson then. The Azumah Nelson fight as well. Whitaker was being chased by a a guy putting on Lamotta-esqe pressure. Pernell put on a clinic of how to jab, take a step back and keep the guy turning, meaning popping him.

. He was a beautiful fighter the way he stood in close, slipped and countered but also lead his fighter into traps. His fight with Gomez was picture perfect and so was his first fight was Lopez.

. He actually copied Sugar Ray style outright and he admitted it "World champion Muhammad Ali called him "the king, the master, my idol." He moved like Robinson, threw punches like Robbie, but he was not complete like Robinson. He was a good copy but not the complete, body-punching, hooking, tempermental, warrior beast that Robinson could become if needed or not needed.
