Floyd Patterson loved boxing. He said he acknowledged the brutality of it but he couldn't help but to love the sport.

Jermain Taylor said he never followed the sport. Doesn't really hate it but according to him it's only a way to make money.

Mike Tyson can be seen at the fights all the time and he is a student of the game. I'm sure he hates the corruption around it though.

Greg Page wasn't the greatest boxing man, and it cost him his life.

Eubank hated the fact that other people other than,or as well as,the fighters, made lots of money on the back of the fighters and that these other people called the shots.Eubank tried to have more of a say over the business side and his own destiny compared to past ways in which fighters were treated.
Irony was...he still ended up bankrupt !
In Ken Nortons book it was clear he became sour towards the sport, poor decisions and the politics involved in the money making clearly left a mark on his outlook.
I think fighters know what the job entails...its whether the end pay off justifies the whole job which often im sure it doesnt.

dunno if this fits here, as he didnt like training and that whole side of boxing...

lew jenkins..he drank round the clock and didnt train much at all...even drank between rounds in fights when he could get away with it....yet became lightweight champion of the world.....he claimed himself that he was a featherweight really if he had to train and eat right, and that he never learned how to box properly at all....but was blessed with huge power in his right hand.
he was in a motorcycle accident and had to wear a neck brace due to injury and couldnt train at all and still showed up to go 15 rounds with sammy agnott, having to take the neck brace off before the fight and put it back on afterwards
he was in the army but got discharged for street fighting...but after his boxing days joined up again and went on to become a sargeant.

You're right it seems to massively depend on what frame of mind Cotto is in.

Brian London said on numerous occasions he was only in it for the money.

Just thought of...Joe Bugner openly said he hated the whole job..it was about money.
Conversely Frank Bruno loved every aspect and says he misses it.

Marciano's first love was baseball. He wasn't particularly fond of boxing, but he saw it as a way to fame and fortune.

Toward the end of his life he favored banning the sport because of it's brutality.

Slightly off topic but nathan cleverly is a current fighter who has no liking of boxing, just a job that pays well to him.
