Most famous yes lol. But there is a difference. Duran wanted to fight. Leonard wanted to prance around. The fight was close, only 1-2 points different.
A similar situation but Loma has had four consecutive fighters quit during his ten fight career. Do you have the dates on the Floyd matches and how many rounds those fighters won ? I remember Gatti not winning a round and it being a total mismatch about ten years ago.
I dunno, I think a physical ordeal and a strategic one are equal challenges in their ways. It's on a fighter to stop the other guy pulling what some would call a con job on him. Granted, Duran was numerically still competitive, but I'd say he and Rigo quit for quite similar reasons. Duran was stung by Leonard's mockery of him and the crowd's reaction, sensed that the fight was headed in a humiliating direction, quit and cited stomach ache. Rigo, too, sensed that the fight was headed in a humiliating direction, quit and cited a bruised hand. It's hard to know much about Rigo, but one thing that does stand out in the portraits that exist is his sensitivity. I think he didn't want the humiliation of Loma getting so far on top as to be able to showboat while they shared a ring, although others (including myself) would argue that giving up on himself so early was the greater ignominy. The real difference between Rigo and Duran is that Duran proved a lot about his fortitude in his career either side of New Orleans. Rigo may have some career left, though, so it's not out of the question that he might redress the issue to an extent.
